| Gearing between an SCX10 v1 and RR10
I want my SCX10 v1 and RR10 Bomber to be the same speed so my son and I can trail together. I've looked up everything I could find regarding the stock gearing and 'apparently' the stock gearing works approximately out at 10.3 to 1 for both trucks. 20T pinion/87T spur and a ~2.4 trans gearing for the SCX10 v1 12T pinion/64T spur and a ~1.9 trans gearing for the RR10 Bomber. The wheels are larger on the RR10 though the 35T motor is lower than the 27T of the SCX10 so stock with the above setups, they both work out about the same speed with the same cell lipo. Now...I put in a 21T 550 Titan (equiv of about a 28T 540 motor) in each truck and the Bomber is AS FAST as the SCX10 even with a speed up 20T/80T spur combo on 2S (RR10 is on 2S) with the SCX10 on 3S. I admit to being a tad surprised about how big the difference between 35T and 27T is. To get them to a similar speed, I would very likely need to gear the SCX10 to around 3 to 1 with 32P gears, 16T pinion and 48T spur and reduce the Bomber to a 10 or 11T pinion with the 64T spur. Does this sound about right? Not sure how low I need to go TBH to get them similar enough. The Bomber certainly crawls fine and zooms around great with the stock gearing and the 21T 550 motor so I figure the SCX10 should be the same once the speed equals as it's got the same motor/ESC and probably even weighs slightly less than the RR10. This is for a casual crawling and bashing around setup for each truck. |

Anyone with experience making a Bomber and SCX10 go a similar speed with the same motors?

Cheers! I think the problem was that I was reading the gearbox reduction was 2.4 but 2.6 like the script shows seems to work better and fits what I'm seeing in real life. If I use that ratio, I could probably drop a tooth on the Bomber and be pretty darn close with a 23T pinion and 80T spur on the SCX10. That might even help reduce some heat on the Bomber as well. |
