Default Axial Slipper Clutch Pad Question

Hello,

Anyone try to make these? (part # AX3106
If so, what material did you use?

Other than EBAY, I have not been able to find these to purchase and it appears to me that these could be made and glued onto the spur gear. The local hobby shop checked with Axial and the earliest these will be available is the end of May.

I do not have enough experience as to how much a properly setup clutch will or should be allowed to slip, so I do not know what material might work.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

In a crawler, no slip. No point in a slipper at all.

I wonder how close in size the Duratrax slipper pads are, they are at least hex compared to everyone else's octagonal.

Though I to am inclined to just lock the thing down tight anyway.

is it possible to not use a pad and just tighten it down hard to lock it up.

I dunno. Keep the pads in place and crank the nut down.

I've just been pondering the use of slipper clutches/pads. My son stripped out the gears in his SCX10 gearbox. Spur has been fine.

If you tighten down the slipper so it doesn't actually slip, you'll damage the gearbox gears which cost about $10AUD to replace

If you losen the slipper you then torch the slipper pads which are like the same price to replace and are likely more fiddly to replace...plus you lose wheel torque.

I'm currently thinking it's easier to replace plastic gears. If I can find some affordable steel gears I'll go steel and tighten the slipper down though only the Axials are available and they are about $85 a set plus postage!

I have been using traxxas 32p gears and just cranking them down. Even with the slipper set to slip i still strip out the plastic gears eventually. After i upgraded to all steel gears the transmission is the last of my worries when i go out wheeling. I have both of my sons transmission's setup the same way and theirs have been trouble free as well.

Other option is the Robinson middle & bottom gear
