Traxxas hollow ball for Scx10 skid

I use Traxxas Revo rod ends on my links. Their hollow ball is not as wide as the hole in the Scx10 skid so I have some play. Don't want to put shims but I heard that there are some larger hollow balls from Traxxas which fits better. Can you confirm and give a manufacturer stock number ?

Thanks
Filippo

Ball width:

TRA5525 - 8.2mm
TRA5347 - 7mm

I don't have an SCX10 skid lying around to measure though.

The wide Jato ends are way too big. I found these online and they fit great.

Compared to a normal Traxxas end and the "upgrade" Axial end.

The rear slot is 7.30mm, gotta clearance things a bit.

Thank you very much.
I would have bet that Traxxas revo hollow balls were narrower than stock Axial ones while in the photo they seem the same height. Cannot figure out why Axial hollow balls don't have play in the skid.

About the Traxxas 5525: I bought them in the past and if I remember well only a few hollow balls, 2 or 4 of 12 are larger. Anyway I have them at home and I suppose I never mounted them (the larger ones) because they don't fit. I will check again.

Bye
Filippo

The plastic Axial balls do seem wider, those are the aluminum ones people say will fix the slop. They don't, obviously. The Samix balls are perfect.

For a variety of sizes and styles of rod ends (straight, bent, offset), check out the RC4WD website. They have rod ends specifically with the Axial length balls and I've found them to fit perfectly as replacements for the stock Axial rod ends with the plastic balls. I use all 3mm. The rod ends come in different lengths as well, short, medium, and long. I've had pretty good luck with the plastic ones, some 2 years old and still no slop between the ball and the rod end. Only broke one so far and that was after a 50 foot tumble down a rock face. I use them for shock rod ends, suspension links, steering links. You may have to trim the length to match what you are replacing so everything comes out the required pin-to-pin length. I've even pressed the Traxxas balls out of the 4962 shocks I use and replaced them with ones I've pressed out of the RC4WD rod ends. The fit is a little tight to start with but seem to be fine after running a little bit. I find the price of these reasonable as well.

:lmao: if they claim that it's a bogus claim. I think it's more for cheap machining. But even steel balls wear out so brass is just a bad idea. .

The faster they wear out, the faster they can sell you more :lmao:

Seriously though, the Samix balls have been flawless.

No bueno for me. I think one of the requirements is that you must be able to drive with no hands, and do youtube videos, all while looking at the camera and not the road.

I usually jam a 3mm flat washer in there which is a pita.

Very nice, going to buy the Samix balls, about time somebody made them wider so that they are a nice snug fit in the skidplate! "thumbsup"

Had to sand down some 3mm nylon washers recently what a pain. Good stuff.
