Default Mixing Axial spur/other pinion brands

Could you please post your experiences with using 32P Axial spur gears with different brand pinion gears? I seem to remember Traxxas pinions being quite noisy even though they are also sold as 32P. Thanks.

No problems.

Maybe you're thinking metric pinions?

Thanks EeePee, but I'm pretty sure they were 32P Traxxas pinions. I'll try it again and see if I can re-create the noise. What concerned me was not the noise per-se, but that it was an indication of increased friction and wear.

Doesn't matter what brand, as long as it is 32p to 32p gears, it should not have any problems.

32p is 32p no matter who makes it, the 32p is very close to the metric mod 1.0 pinion. If the mod 1.0 pinion is run on a 32p gear... it will be noisey...

Ic. So do you know if Traxxas pinions are actually 32p, or Mod 1.0? Because I've seen them described as both.

Mod 1 is visibly more coarse than 32p. I want to say that mod .8 is the one that's really close to 32p.

Correct, Mod 1 will NOT mesh with 32dp at all. 32dp is very close to Mod 0.8. Kind of like a 2mm hex driver and a 5/64" hex driver. I have used Mod 0.8 pinions with 32dp spurs and never noticed any difference in noise and/or wear.

I always use Robinson Racing pinion gears. Excellent quality!

Yes and still too noisy. I've used Traxxas 0.8 Mod spurs with 32 pinion (also Traxxas) on my Wraith (only gears available at the time to get the gearing I wanted) and it was too noisy. Always best to use same pitch gears together.

Yeah, an old trick I remember from 2wd offroad days is to spin up the tranny with toothpaste on the gears (we're talking plastic gear Stealths). I assume it would also work on spur gears but may be a little messy!

Yeah i have noticed traxxas pinions on axial spurs are noisy. If i recall i have used Robinson racing pinions with axial spurs with better results as far as quiet goes. Alot more expensive tho.
