Default New metal gear transmission: Running them in?

I recently put the SSD 2 speed trans kit in my Yeti, but I'd guess that this would apply to any/all metal geared transmissions, regardless. Has anyone used valve lapping compound(s), upon initial assembly, to run the gears in & help to quiet them down?

I know that metal gears will always be "louder" than plastic/composite, and over time as the gears wear together they quiet down a bit, but wondered anyone had tried the valve lapping compound before.

Thanks.

I run HR gears. When trans was assembled, grease was used, after initial fit I looked at the wear pattern and was happy, no high spots. Assembled and checked for binding, and irregular noises. I've no need to lap these gears.

No, never done anything special. I just use a light but even coat of grease during assembly and havent had an issue

All gears benefit from lapping, you end up with quiter, more efficient transmission

But to answer your question no it isnt something yhatbhas to be done, but if you like tinkering then byball means go the extra mile and do so.
