Default Axial AE-5

Does the axial AE-5 have a built in BEC?
I’ve heard people talking about it having one, but I honestly don’t know. If it does what voltage is it? And can it handle 3s?

Yes, it has a built in bec, but it's kinda weak at 5volts/ 2amps. It will run 3s too.

The AE-5 is garbage. Next time you buy a brushed ESC go for the HobbyWing WP1080.

I have the CC bec, but have no idea how to check what voltage it’s putting out but I do not have castle link. Is there anyway I can?

You can use a volt meter to check output, but you need the castle link or the castle field card (serves as a link when hooked to a windows pc) to change the voltage output

Really? I have an AE-5 that has been running strong for more than a year.

the AE-5 is hit or miss, i ran alot of them a few months ago but they are not as smooth as the Quicrun 1080wp...the 1080 is much smoother on the low end take off and has many different settings to change it up..for 40 bucks, its pretty good.
I didnt have any issues with my AE-5's as far as burning up and such, just not as smooth. I didnt know how much better a brushed ESC could be until I tried the 1080...

Consider yourself lucky. Some last, but a lot of them burn up quickly just like most of Axial's other electronics. If it's working for you great. But if it dies or if you want to try something new get the HobbyWing 1080.

The 1080 is a much, much better ESC.

I have four Ae-5, and they're all doing great! That being said, the 1080 is far better.

I have a few and they all hard the low voltage cutoff fail. Not a reassuring situation.

Oh thanks. I don't have much experience with other companies electronics. Guess it makes sense because all of the China rigs have similar ESCs

I'll jump on the HobbyWing 1080 bandwagon, too. Mine pushes a Traxxas 550 beautifully.

IMO, just slap a BEC on it and it'll suffice. You could also try to find a used AE-2, with a BEC it can handle 6s and it's castle based so it links.

The AE-2 is a 2 cell lipo ESC.

I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't done it myself, but I just got my old AE2 esc running on 4s with a 12t 550 yesterday. It hasn't died (yet!)

So I can hook up my Castle link and program it? Didn't know that.

I ran my AE-5 since they came out because they're listed as 3s capable. Now my HW1080. Guess I'll need to dig it out then.

I got one of these combos a few months ago for a test rig up. It's held up for a couple of packs but is slow. Very slow, but doesn't bog down and has a decent drag brake.

I run ae2 esc with a bec in both my bomber and wraith and have had no issues on 3s. Good temps, programmability, good pricing,. If I do a scx10.2 it will have this same setup
