Right, because Axial or Vaterra haven't been successful overseas.

ETA my comments were mostly "tongue in cheek", hence the 'Murcia part, but I still think the TRX4 should have been released with this body initially.

Maybe beadlocks or metal parts?

Or as you said, pull out the electronics and lower the price.
Most people will go brushless or hobbywing 1080 anyway.

I think you're used to the Axial model where the RTRs are plastic fantastic garbage that need lots of upgrading. Their kits include the upgrades that you have to install to have a reliable truck.

Vaterra, for example, includes the same components on the RTR as they do on the kit. You don't have to immediately upgrade the truck out of the box. Traxxas went the Vaterra route not the Axial route.

I do wish Traxxas didn't include the electronics, but at least we have a kit.

Comparing the specs of the Defender TRX4 and the Bronco, nothing is different other than the wheel base. I thought it was going to come with the 2.2 tire option and lift kit installed? I read that on RC car action. It also mentions something about the kit, but the kit seems to also have the same shocks and suspension parts at the RTR. is there another kit on the way?

RC Car Action seems to pass on a fair amount of misinformation. Or maybe they just pass on what they hear without verifying it's accuracy. In any case I understood that the 2.2 wheels and lift kit were an optional upgrade similar to the light kit.

If they made a mid 80ties ram charger my TRX4 owning friend would just flip

What i like most of traxxas getting into the game is that they of all are most likely to supersize scalers, and i would really like that,,,, like a lot.

What i dislike most about the traxxas scalers is the more parts to break, my friend quickly made toast of the diff servos.
And really i like to keep things simple, dont mind the portal deal.

You are correct, it does say optional parts installed in the photos. The parts are not listed on Traxxas site yet. I'm stil going to get the Bronco RTR, and this one I will mod, and save the stock parts for my other TRX4.
I don't really see why anyone would get the kit to only save a few dollars and get the same parts as the RTR has? Fun to build I guess?

For some of us, building it is half the fun. Some of us are skeptical about rtr build quality and like the peace of mind knowing the truck is personally quality checked during assembly. For example, my rtr needed plenty of ring/pinion gear shimming to bring it within my tolerances.

IMO the only upgrade the trx4 needs is quality electronics, thus the kit coming without electronics would have been an upgrade in my mind.

This is what I read as well.

It looks better with 1.9s. Not sure why anybody would want the 2.2 kit, but monster trucks are in right now.

Maybe you can build it without the locking diffs and some aluminium parts.

I never understood the need for locking diffs, they must stay locked 90% of the time on a crawler.

personally, i wish the kit came with no electronics, no locking diffs, and no 2 speed, but make all the options available to someone who might want them. i'm not really a scale crawler i guess, so i don't see the appeal in unlocked diffs in the first place. maybe a front unlockable diff would be cool for when i'm ripping around or doing donuts, but otherwise i don't think i'd ever want the things unlocked. same with the 2 speed, i have no need for it.
making all of that optional, the way axial and vaterra did with their 2 speed transmissions, and leaving out the electronics would have made the kit less expensive and more appealing.

Don't need no kit! To build my #2 TRX4, I started with a pair of frame rails off ebay for $5 and assembled that build from there long before the kit was even a rumor. So the kit does not interest me much now. I would rather spend the extra $84 and get the Bronco body.

Over the weekend I was educated on crawling, and found out that lift kit would not be a good idea anyway, so I guess it's good that it's not pre-installed. As a model helicopter pilot, I know the value of getting a kit... I would never want to get a larger heli pre-assembled, it would have to be taken aparnt and gone over anyway. I guess I don't feel it that important with a truck because they are not very dangerous, however you would not want it to break down or fall apart while in use, or later find a cross threaded screw into you trans or motor housing.

That's why I am on this site, going to learn some things and not waste my money!

My thoughts were to purchase this Bronco and mod it up too, and then save the parts for stock TRX4. The big body is cumbersome at times, but it looks really cool to me.

I'm looking forward to seeing what modifications some of you guys do to this Bronco!

The Bronco may be somewhat oversized, but as it doesn't have the exo-cage, roof rack, spare, fuel cans, hi-lift jack, etc - it's still likely to outperform the Land Rover bodied version...

Do you think that bronco body would fit on the scx10.2 kit?

It should be a close fit, it has a 12.3" WB.

I think the Bronco body looks just like the Hot Wheels Bronco I had as a kid!

Same mods we do to the current TRX4s, replace the steering servo/horn, add portal weights, free up the shocks, better wheels and tires. If you're really serious a Mamba X and HH motor. The Bronco body should be ligher than the Defender body but we will have to wait till it is actually released to know the exact difference there.

Servo issues aside, the TRX4 has proven to be a very robust and capable rig right out of the box.
