Servos are JR st125 metal gear's (will these servos provide enough turning power?) all link ends are RC4WD also. around 40 deg. in total articulation. (I think I need a little more) http://www.zuwharrie.com/gallery/alb...2156/1_008.jpg 4" under the diffs, 5" under the chassis on moab xl's. 19" wheelbase. planning on using a mamba max 4600 system with a 2 cell li-po. My thoughts exactly. Very limited turning radius with the links that close the end of the axle. Is this not 4wheel steering? The rear links are even closer. If it is 4wheel steering you only have about an 1/8inch from tire to link. :???: Other than that I love the ground clearance. |
not 4 wheel steer, but yes, the front is going to be limited in steering angle. Still working on that. I either need to relocate the front link mounts, or space out the front tires. Ideas? |

It does look to me also like the lower links are going to interfere w/ steering, and should be mounted a little more inboard on the axles. Rear steering aside, the lower links are probably also why you only get 40 degrees of articulation. You should rework both ends, not just the front. If you welded those up yourself, adding a mount point to each tube about at the midpoint should be child's play for you. Nice fabrication going on there. I'm diggin' those axles, they have mad ground clearance. http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/7131/chassisnl9.png If you move the lower link mount points on the axle so the lower links line up more like I've drawn here, not only will you have the nessecary clearance for all the steering you'll need, I can almost gaurantee you'll get better than 40 degrees of articulation as well. Spread that wide, the links are probably sideloading the shocks and binding them up before they reach the end of their stroke. |
Those Wabash wheels are killing you. They have a 1/2" offset versus the Velocity Dishes. This pushes them in that much. My suggestion would be to get extenders or go to another wheel. I made the same mistake. Love those wheels but they are set for the Revo. |
Although you stated that you will not have rear steer. With as wide of a stance and a 19" WB, you'll incurr serious issues turning that rig on the rocks. Unless its a football field wide. hehe If your looking at competing with this rig, rear steer is something you'll want to keep in mind. |
Is this a dedicated crawler? Inrunner motors dont work for crawling unless they are sensored. In other words the mamba 4600 combo is only useful for the esc in a crawler. The motor goes into a fast vehicle. |

Thats a lot of reduction! You can use the motor just fine, it will have lots and lots of power. As soon as you bind a wheel with no wheelspeed you are SOL though. IF the motor can spool up it will keep going, but you would be depending on geardown and drivetrain backlash to allow this. So in a nutshell, it would crawl with that reduction for sure but in a bind it wont want to start up. If it does manage to start up there will be a lot of jerking and cogging involved. |
so something like that outrunner in your sig link would work better? more low end torque with less cogging? I have had a couple mamba 1/18 scale trucks, and I really like the castle creations stuff, and I dont know much about what else is out there. so you suggest mamba max esc with hyperion z3025-08 motor? will that motor clear the bottom of my chassis with the r1 tranny? thanks - Potter |
All you need for power is a Hyperion 3025-8,period...end of story."thumbsup" It'll throw that truck around like a rag doll.:lol: :lol: 9 or 10 cells and it's a beautifull thing at 60:1 ratio |
I Built for high RPM and lots of reduction. I feel the motor takes less abuse that way. At less than 1000 kv and a 7.3v li-po, the hyperion wouldnt net me enough wheel speed:?: |

It wouldnt give you any wheelspeed at the reduction you want to use. 60:1 - 80:1 is what most people run with the hyperion on a super crawler. Outrunners are designed to run with less reduction, they have more torque that is produced at a lower rpm. I cant say if it would clear completely with that tranny, I have never seen one. If it hit, you could always raise your tranny up with shims. Thats what I did on my barnbuster chassis. The z3025 would be a very good choice for that size of crawler. |
