Default Best drag brake combo

I need advice for crawling that would have the best drag brake set up.
This would go in like a SCX 10II.
All advice is greatly appreciated.

I heard brushed was the best right now.

Was looking into a H.H. PLLR400T puller for a brushed motor 13t xxx ? https://holmeshobbies.com/motors/bru...-400-team.html

Not sure what esc to go with.

Thanks

Sorry guys, I just realized I put this in the wrong place.....

Others can help you with the motor, but for ESC go with a Hobbywing WP 1080

HH BRXL if you are set on staying brushed, otherwise the Castle Mamba X is a good dual purpose brushed/sensored brushless ESC.

Go with a 550 motor. Torquemaster 27t would have very strong drag.

Jboucher and John, Thank you both.

Is there that much more holding power/dragbrake with a 550 can motor over the Puller 400 Team short can motor?

I was going to try to keep the with as small a motor as I could, But if I would suffer holding dragbrake, then I will defiantly go with a 550 can.

I was thinking of probably using a planetary gear box to keep thing tight. Any advice on transmission?

Yes, smaller motors just don't have as much active area for holding and drag brake. Even a puller 500 or regular 540 will have more drag, particularly three slot variations like the Torquemaster. Torquemaster 550 will be drag brake king without getting into the TorqueMaster Magnum line I'm working to release this week.

We are looking at about a two week lead time for the Magnum motors. Should have them on the site for preorder batches in a day or two.

Magnum arms are larger diameter and use thinner neodymium magnets so they fit within the same 540 can. A lot more punch and brake. The CrawlMaster magnum actually starts up smoother than the regular Crawlmaster

Crawlmaster Magnum you say?

I never knew I would want a brushed motor so badly again.

And TorqueMaster 38 Magnum. Its a very punchy motor, speed of a 35t and massive hold and drag. Starts up the same as the Torquemaster Pro 35t. The CrawlMaster Magnum will be offered in 16t, 13t, and 11t most likely. Testing of those turns worked out well today.

John
I am new to crawling, but not to land rc. The 11t 13t and 16t seam low wind for a crawler and I assume that is winding turns.
Can you enlighten me how this works for crawling.

Thanks Tim

The lower turn count is a faster, less torquey motor. But this Magnum line up has a larger armature and more winding than its predecessor. So a Magnum 16t may be more inline with a conventional 35t as for torque. More or less.

At least that’s how I understood it.

on the topic of drag brake where would you guys recommend as a starting point on setting the drag brake for a br mini esc? with the Holmes hold enabled and drag at 100 percent it is an instant stop even at full speed. is it more beneficial to have a little less response to it? the motor in the front is a teken 35t motor and the rear is an integy 35t it'd that makes a difference.

His crawlmaster line that have lower turn numbers have a 5 slot armature so they are only about half the speed of a 3 slot motor. But thats what helps them have such a great start up.

Well this was a hole heap of good information guys. Big Thanks !

5 slot it is then.

So from a dead dig/stop, which wind/motor would last longest for stop and go's?
I am thinking 16turn, that it would not draw the amps a lower turn motor would.
