Default Spektrum 3rd Channel?

Does anyone know if Spektrum radios have a 3rd channel with a 3 position switch for winch use? Not looking for a big dollar radio to get this feature as the RC4WD radio that they use for their RTR's has it.

Depends on the Spektrum. The older radios do. There's also the option of a 2 position winch controller from HeyOk.
Another option is a hacked GT3B. It's one of the least expensive radios out there and when easily hacked gives you 3ch,6ch,or 8ch with the appropriate inexpensive receivers, the ability to map almost any button to any channel as a 2 position,3 position, momentary long press and short press, and step rate.
It also has more adjustments than more expensive radios.

I'm on a DX-6i and if I was gonna wire a winch to it tonight I'd probably do away with the usual winch controller and put a small...say, 1/18th or 1/24th scale...brushed car ESC on the throttle stick for the winch, then put a power cut on the 'gear' channel.

Yes, they do. I have a (discontinued) DX4C with 2 AUX channels that I can program to have either a 2 position or 3 position switch. I used one with a RC4WD wired winch controller, and the other for lights with a HeyOK 3 position light controller.

I'd try to get either a DX4C, or the newer DX5C if you can't find a DX4C, with the SR415 receiver. That receiver has 4 Ch total (Steering, Throttle, 2 AUX) without the AVC, which is difficult to turn off it seems, and not that great of a feature to have on when trying to crawl.
