From the 1980's:

A grandma, observing a few of us bashing around in a park, points out my clod buster, and says, "Those are kinda neat, I'd like to buy one of those for my grandson. How much do they cost?"

Me, adding up in my head the price of the clod, bearings (extra!), motors, esc, and the fancy 3 channel rear-steer-mix Futaba radio, tell her that these can cost over a $1000...

"Oh!" she replies. And walks off.

Every kid that visited the local hobby shop, or in the field where we ran the cars and trucks, whether it was a boat, pan car, buggy, monster truck, etc...

"How fast does it go?"

After a few dozen times, the question did start to grate on ones nerves...

Most popular phrases I hear from people who see me running one of my Rigs:

Is that expensive?

Where can I buy one?

My son likes those little rc "TOYS" - we bought him one from Wal Mart for Christmas.

Did you make that?

How fast does it go?

Does it use gas?

How does it steer?

Where do you take it if it breaks?

Passing her in the hallway as she heads off to sleep... me, with a handful of rc parts stating with a straight face that "I'll come to bed shortly".
