To be honest, Tamiya prices me out of this kit. I was likely never going to buy an original unless I found a fantastic deal on a used one.

I'll probably be buying one of these knock offs, actually drive it, break it, mod it and have a ton of fun. Most of the fun in RC crawling is the tinkering.

If I was building a shelf queen, I would do an original.

You Wizard!

Not off to a good start IMO.

1. They appear to be RTR only.
2. They are manufactured by HG.

I'm going to wait to see what people think before I get one.

Same here. I haven't even touched my 2 reissue kits yet so.... no rush.

That's what I don't get. The original was released in 1985! It seems unlikely they still haven't recouped their initial marketing & design costs from it. Virtually every RC company will either drop the price or redesign/improve the kit every year or three. Tamiya kits don't get any cheaper nor do they get any updates for decades. The Clod for example is identical to it's original 1987 release, and Tamiya didn't do a follow-up til 2012 with the TXT-1.

I would raise exception to someone cloning the newest Castle ESC or a TRX4 a month after initial release, but not after 33 years later. Jeez.

Actually, go watch the youtube channel AvE. He tested several brands inc box store & Horror Freight stuff vs Matco, Snapon, etc. He does it with tools besides wrenches too. You might reconsider using the price=quality argument in the future.

WTF are you talking about, I get what your trying to say but your info is all messed up! The clod is very similar over the years but had at least 2 major re-realeases, with noticable changes, first is the grill and the badgeing, second thing "white rims to chrome" in the first bullhead, Third the switch to the ESC and some bearings added on the super clod.

Also the txt-1 came out in 2001/02 and was totally changed for the worse in the txt-2 re-realase

Get your facts in line

Damn, for a sec I thought you were serious! Lol, I'll admit they at LEAST changed to an ESC. I bet few here ever messed with a 2-spd servo-operated MSC. And yes I subbed in the discontinuation date for release. I am a failure at RC!

Just imagine if Associated's top buggy was still the original RC10. Dogbone outdrives, ball-slipper clutch, nylon & fiberglass everything on a deep alum tub. I'm surprised racers aren't begging Associated to re-issue those knobby tires for their clay tracks. Damn Gil Losi Jr for giving them enough competition where they started uping their game!

20% all ebay today till 7pm Pacific.

That was enough to offset shipping!

At 20% off I decided not wait on one of these. I know it is a knock off of a almost 30 year old design, but I have wanted one for a long time. And most of you from the ascender section know how much I pass my good fortune forward so I decided to pass this forward to me.

Initially I was torn about a clone of a legendary Tamiya product, but with Tamiya's recent, poor decision to drastically increase and enforce MAP prices I say clone away!

I had mixed feelings about this too at first, but now with that MAP nonsense I'd be tempted to buy a knockoff just to give Tamiya the middle finger.

I want to buy it.... just to keep as parts for my unbuilt Tamiya kits. I had to pass the deal with the 20% coupon though. Had to buy other stuff for my trucks that I'll actually run. I'll probably pick it up next time around when the next coupon comes.
