Default help with keeping lower spring retainers on shock

After reading some good things about these blue ebay aluminum shocks I decided to order a set to try. The build quality is actually pretty good. My one question is on the lower spring retainer cups. they fit real nice on rod end but I can see these falling off on the trail. Anyone out there have any tricks for keeping them on. adhesive or some other crazy ideas? I don't want them permanently attached obviously as I want to be able to service the shocks.

these are the shocks

Beef tips for the King shocks.

Beef Tubes Beef Tips - King Shocks - Brass (4)

Or replace the shock end with an Axial end and use any of the solid lower spring cup or Axial clamping spring cups from the new Honcho.

I had those. I think they were actually better than the king shocks...

A small dab of shoe goo on top of the rod end will keep the spring cup in place and still be removable when it's time.

I just got the shocks in yesterday so I haven't had a chance to compare. The axial stock spring cups are correct diameter to fit these springs that came on shock??

Yes, I'm using some aluminum spring cups for Axial shocks with those shocks on one of my trucks. Springs fit just fine.

Axial is now making plastic spring retainers that are captured with a screw. Axial also offers blue and black anodized ones.

Are these shocks 100mm eye to eye or end to end?

100mm eye to eye. the review i Read stated they are soft springs so will droop down a bit. I will see once i throw them on the truck. I don't want them to lift it a ton. A little might be nice. I was afraid the 90mm version of these would droop too much

I got some 80mm ones the other day. They are really awesome for the price. Was wondering about the retainers myself. Thought about just using some 3mm o rings above them maybe...

I usually just drill a hole in them so that they can be zip tied to the springs. But glue would be quicker and cleaner most likely.

My dad has a set similar to these and he likes them. They're too long for my liking. I'm trying to convince him to go shorter. I wonder if these are offered in 90mm or 95mm...eBay here I come.

E6000/Shoe Goo might work and it would be removable unlike CA.

You can use heat shrink. Get some that is roughly the same diameter as the spring / spring cup. Cut it about a 1/2" to 3/4" long. Slip it over the cup and bottom portion of the spring where it meets the cup. Heat, and wallah. Spring cup is not going anywhere. Used this method on my old AX10 and it worked great!

I used to use this on cvd pins on rc10gt back in the day.. brilliant idea. How did I not think of it.

Side note. When I built them last night I used locktight on rod ends and put a few drops on rod end where it meets cup. Didnt think it would hold but surprisingly its dry today and feels very firmly attached. I may still go with some heatshrink. Cheap solution for cheap shocks.

Good to hear and not leaking is a nice feature.

Or E6000, that's what I use. It's thinner, easier to work with and conforms to curves with less finger/screwdriver wiping as it dries.

Wow decided to mount these up tonight with just the dry thread locker holding cups in place. These shocks are so smooth!! 100mm is perfect. The weight of truck dropped em down to where it didnt raise my ride height but a tiny bit of at all. I should have measured. I'm liking the extra articulation just messing around in living room. Cant wait to test on the rocks. Big front flex with both rear wheels still on ground

My son just lost his spring cup/perch last night on his Slash. I was going to drill to very small holes on each side of the split and wire it together. Do u have an Ebay link for the shocks? Thx Dan

I zip tied my spring retainers to my springs.

I stripped out the wire from some baggie twist ties and secured the cups to the springs. Looks like the cups you have may require drilling a small hole through them.

This is what I did, but with zip ties

I bought the beef tubes product, beef tips. You have to unscrew the bottom rod end to install / change springs, but they cannot fall off. Worst case scenario your spring stretches over them and doesnt go anywhere.
