Default Greatscott's Backyard Crawler Course

I have been building my back yard course for a while, and for the amount of time I have been building it you'd figure I'd be further along.

Seeing OSRC's thread for his course, it has inspired me to put a bit more effort into mine. If you haven't see his, check it out:

OS's Backyard Crawler Playground

So, here is an FPV tour of the course:

So, this whole mess was orignally inspired by a jungle gym that was in the back yard when I bought the house and a chunk of sled track I found in the woods.

The contraption here is an elevator, of sorts, in that, it only goes down. Driving on to the platform makes makes it go down, driving off the counter weight pulls it back up.

I have done a bit more work on my crawling course, and will likely be done with it until the spring unless we have a late warn-snap.

I have added a "rock" wall that is at ~ 50* and is intended to not be climbable without winch assistance. I have been able to make it almost to the top with my Bomber, and my TRX4 can only make it about half way up. I am pretty sure I could climb it with my XR10, but have not tried it.

The wall itself is made out of foam on OSB, there is burlap over the top. The color is horrible, and why you should never trust colors on off-brand paint, that is supposed to be "weathered oak".

Here is my TRX4 going up it. I had a little spooling problem with my winch and had to reset it to the middle. After climbing the wall I used my "elevator" twice.

Here is some footage of my TRX4 going down the cable slide.

I do have to cut down a 15ft tree that is dying, so I might use it for some log obstacles.

That wall looks horrible, but cool!

I'm going to need to visit my brother in Spokane and make a detour next spring.

Can you provide some info about the TRA-4 lights and the winch you have installed.

Here is my thread for my TRX4:

https://forums.traxxas.com/showthrea...atScott-s-TRX4

The winch is a standard RC4WD 9.5 case with an upgraded motor, and it is controlled off of a HW 1/18 scale ESC via the first AUX channel on my DX5R.

The latest body is the Cherokee, I order new wheel wells for it. The wheel wells come with covers for the rock light mounting locations, I just drilled 5mm holes in these and used them as light mounts. The whole mess is wired to the Mamba X's ESC, which provides plenty of power.

Just completed another section of my backyard crawler course. I really have no specific plans, I get an idea and run with it. Here I have put two tires into the ground and linked them...

Interesting use for some old tires. The wife said your suspension bridge was cool looking. I agree.

That bridge is really neat!

As soon as the weather warms a bit, I've got to get some work done on mine. I like the idea of a winch trial, I may have to borrow that!

Thanks for the comments!!!

The tires are a little "special", I filled the upper portion of them so that wasps and hornets couldn't build nests up there. As you can see, I sunk the tires in the ground, each one is held in place with two bags of quick-crete. I have two more tires that I don't have any plans for.

I think the next thing I am going to do is get my elevator working again. The car was hastily put together, and more of a proof on concept, and needs to be rebuilt. The counter weight now weighs a lot more than it did, so I need to decide if I am going to rebuild it, or just counter the balance the car a bit more.

Love the rope bridge. I might make something like that in my back yard.
