Is a hobbywing 1060 esc a good crawler esc? Im using a traxxas xl5 with a rc4wd 35t, but it doesnt have any wheel speed. Granted it crawls great, but wen it gets to a lil bind its stuck. Like it has no power wat so ever. Im using a smc 2s 5000mah batt. Lookin to get a HH trailmaster 21t. Would the HH be a better motor to use with the xl5 or just get a new esc as well? Any help is much appreciated! Thanks yall Sent from my SM-J327VPP using Tapatalk |

If you're going to buy a new ESC, I'd recommend the 1080 instead. A new ESC won't really help your speed issue though. Holmes Hobbies are great motors! Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk |

Gearing can help, but yeah the lower the number the faster it will turn. But as the turns go down the torque also decreases. 21-27 are good for crawling still. Also you can go higher voltage if you want more speed. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk |

Which means new esc, correct? If i get the hw1080, will the program card work on it? Ive got the card for my p4de, runnin the HW sc8wp esc. Only reason ive got the rc4wd 35t is i got it for like 5 bucks new... Ive heard alot of good bout the HH motors,, so i figured id upgrade n drop a few turns. Sent from my SM-J327VPP using Tapatalk |

The 1080 comes with a program card. If you have the ability, a gearing change is worth a shot IMO. Quote:

What pitch are you running? And what truck? I know my Redcat Everest trucks are something like 87/18 with 48p gears stock, which with 35t is pretty fast. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk |

Goin with the tamiya f350. Heres some pics of it as of now. Also waitn on new driveshafts. Front one is a lil short, so i made some shims for the moment. Sent from my SM-J327VPP using Tapatalk |

Thats ok lol. I like 32p because the teeth are larger n imo less likely to strip. My p4de im runnin 17/50, but its BL 2150kv. Its quick! I can do standing backflips if im lucky enuf to get my timing rite lol Sent from my SM-J327VPP using Tapatalk |

Volt up and gear down is the general rule. Going to a 3S lipo will get you more power torque and speed, and from what I've noticed is longer run times at the same MAh or the same runtimes with slightly less mAh. Gearing down with a bigger spur or smaller pinion will get you the torque to help keep your motor from stalling and helping with low speed control. Once I upgraded to 3S lipo I wish I would have from the beginning. Luckily since I didn't run huge 2S packs I could still use them to run 2 of my old packs in series so it was 4s for those rare times I wanted even more power and speed. I also made a parallel adapter to run both backs as 2S with twice the capacity for long trail runs, but I honestly never run 2S anymore. Sent from my LGMP450 using Tapatalk |

Only downfall to that is traxxas xl5 is limited to 2s. So ill have to go with a new esc. But i would rather run 3s myself Sent from my SM-J327VPP using Tapatalk |

The new XL5HV is actually pretty decent for being a stock ESC from Traxxas. But unless you find it CHEAP, just get the Hobbywing 1080. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk |

Sweet!!!!! Thanks for that info spoo! I was told the xl5 wouldnt handle 3s. I guess ill have to throw one on charge n see how it does before i go changin anything. Guess it would it be a good idea to run a lvc huh?. Quote: | |

+1 for the hobbywing wp 1080, it is the best esc under $80 IMO, and any thing comparable is arguably not worth the cost. this wont effect you torque issues other then it's 3s capable. +1 for gearing down also, I always gear down as much as I can, 9t pinion, 58t spur if you need the cover, 64p if you don't. personally I run a 96t 48p spur and 9t pinion. motor I recomend the HH trailmaster 550 21t, great motor for $20 and loads more torque then that 35t rc4wd. |
