Introducing The Crawlspace Inspection Rover

It gives me great pleasure to introduce the newest home inspection tool, designed with the latest and greatest technology available - The CRAWLSPACE INSPECTION ROVER, aptly shortened to The CIR.

Envisioned and designed by Attention To Detail LLC, thoroughly refined through collaboration with the world’s largest collection of know-it-alls: the InterNACHI home inspectors, and brought to life with the partnership of Power Shift RC Technologies and The Crawl Space Colorado.

Combining the wide tracked stance, time proven chassis, and custom made 3D printed body, this machine is made for durable, reliable performance. Upgraded speed controller and drive gears give lower speeds and higher torque which provides increased control and maximum maneuverability in tight crawl spaces.

Mounted to a heavy duty pan/tilt mount, the digital camera shoots high quality UHD video at 24 fps and full 1080p video at 60 fps, along with 12mp still photos. Controls at your fingertips give you the ability to look left/right and up/down to a maximum viewing angle of over 270 degrees! Camera is also WiFi enabled with app controls available for apple or android.

The 5.8ghz based Video Transmitter is power-switchable from 5mw to 600mw for an array of transmitting options, from tight spaces with multiple barriers to wide open, long-range options. With over 72 channels available, the video is easily viewed on the large, 7" diversity receiver/monitor.

Ready to Run, The CIR comes with a high quality/high performance NiMH battery and smart charger for the safest, easiest, most effective method of charging and powering your rover.

I've been toying with ideas and designs for a few years now.

My first attempt was with my bomber and a gopro, which did not work out very well. Prone to tip over, poor turning radius, very low signal strength and distance, no pan/tilt, etc...

Second try was with the Blizzard SR, but it had a very poor signal distance and did not pan/tilt.

This one has been in design/testing for the better part of a year and this is my production version. I should have models in stock by Nov 1st with about a 2 week turn around at that point.

Although made for a crawlspace, someone suggested it may do well on a snow-covered roof, which it does! Here's another video I made just to show that it is capable of navigating a snowy rooftop. Not much to be inspected, really, just showing that it can!

I heard once the circumstances for using drones or RPVs can be summed up with the “Three D’s” - if a job is Dirty, Dangerous, or Dull, let the drones do it. This meets probably all of the above.

Very cool, though I would personally equip my rig with a readily available 2.4 or, better yet, 1.3ghz video system - way way Better RF penetration through construction materials, and still very usable video.

If you know someone who will print the body for $100, please let me know! The carbon/nylon filament alone is almost $300, and that's before wiring in the volt reg and lights, and doesn't include the roll cage, which is laser cut from G10... also not cheap.


The body is by far the most expensive single part on this project.

Take out the links to your store and facebook and the thread can stay. A high majority of people here have the ability to make a similar device, you probably won't be pulling customers from this forum. It looks like a cool rig , and people would like to discuss the tech and capabilities

I would say that you don't need CF nylon for the body, a regular nylon would be plenty strong with mounts in the right spots. $300 is a lot towards a lexan mold as well. There would be options to lower cost. Not trying to tell you what to do here or anything, but that is indeed a lot of money on a part that could be made functional in other much less expensive ways.

As far as the body... I've tried multiple "less expensive" versions as a platform for the camera but ran into problems with durability. My idea and intention is that it would be strong enough to withstand being dragged through a crawlspace on it's top, were it to get flipped over. If I am to sell these, I would not want a client to break it or lose it completely if something happened where it could not be retrieved.

Yeah in the commercial world over built is a good thing. I like it but I would be more interested in a kit to convert my Blizzard.
