Default Why do people mount their tires backwards?

I've seen a LOT of pictures here on the forums of people running their tires backwards. Is there a particular reason, or are people just taking the opportunity to be different?

Tires are generally designed so that at high speeds the dirt/debri will be channeled to the outside of the tire keeping the tire on the ground and providing mote traction. With the tires reversed this would (in extreme conditions) make the tires float on top of the surface. But in rock crawling you go so slow it does not really matter. The bite of the reversed tires are more aggresive for climbing.
