My 1 critique is the hardware on the transmission looks obvious and large relative to the size of the trans. Or maybe it’s too many screws? Or just the plastic color is making it stick out more?

That said, I’m definitely interested and plan to buy this kit tho. Kick ass job with this one!

Has it been asked, stock 10.2 gears in the axles? No overdrive in the front or tcase by chance?

We used stainless screws on thre grey as is looked better than black.
Tthe angle of the photo makes them more visible. They are actually M2.5 cap heads so not big. The transmission is significantly smaller than the previous aluminum one though so it is a small unit.

8/30 in the axles.

Portals are just a crutch for poor driving.

Honestly, I did not even know overdrive was a thing on rock crawlers, until a few days ago.

Overdrive is gimmicky? That's very funny.

People forget that portals have some big disadvantages that hurt performance. You trade ground clearance at the pumpkin for a higher center of gravity. So there's that...

well you do have a point there. I guess its along the same lines as having "XL" 1.9's.

Exactly. If there's lots of side hilling I'll give you my portal axle "training wheels" and watch you struggle.

It's just an opinion, this part of the R/C industry thrives on gimmicks considering the most basic trucks can outperform by an overwhelming amount over what their 1:1 counterparts could do.

To me, saying something is a gimmick means it doesn't work. Overdrive clearly works and it works well on scale trucks.

Did you mean that it's overhyped?

I guess overhyped is probably the better term to use, sure it works, but is it necessary? not at all.

I see a gimmick as something that is hyped up to be an option that you think you need, whether or not they "work" is irrelevant.

Fair enough.

Personally, I don't run a truck without overdrive if it's available, but that's because I like steep climbs.

There certainly are a lot of trends/gimmicks that come and go in scale/crawlers. The life cycle of trends seem to be shorter these days. However, it makes the hobby interesting. Do other areas of RC have so many options? I think not.
