Looks like the question I had about which trans to use in my VP Chassis Kit has been answered!

Nice, yes please with od/ud transfer case gears. Top shaft offset to the side would lower cog even more and use high quality steel tubing for gear shafts.

Most any transmission can be made to fit.

Were the new guts of the VS4-10 chassis kit designed with this in mind?

Ah! Light bulb moment!

Now you're onto something. That's very cool.

OK I'm impressed. Are you impressed that I'm impressed?

Yes. There is an extra part included in the VS4-10 Chassis kit that a few people have asked where it goes. It gives a hint to future options when used with the VFD transmission.

Are plastic axles next? I appreciate VP's injected parts more than the CNCed ones. Amazing work!

I played with an offset topshaft layout in the original designs last year. Problem was it would require a proprietary spur gear (smaller than standard) and increased reduction in the transmission housing.

The current layout allows you to use standard 32P spur gears (52, 54, 56, ect) and bolt patterns. The spur gear is the only weak link and can be found at any LHS because of this. Its the ideal place. Due to the width of the chassis rails and size of a standard 32P spur gear the topshaft is centered in the chassis.

Very exciting. I was already leaning towards getting the chassis kit for some project down the road but this makes it a must for me.

Well done

Now that you have teased, when will it be available? I have a nice VS4 frame kit just waiting to have one dropped in.

Well, I was going to save my VP Chassis Kit for a next winter build, BUT now I'm not sure I can wait!

I think this trans paired with a set of TRX-4 axles with the chassis kit may be a winner!

OK thanks, thought it might be something like that. Might also give more interior room too, tranny centered under center console. I like using parts that are easy to source.

Josh just built a VS4-10 with TRX axles, it bolted up surprisingly easy. He did a video on his Harley Designs youtube channel. He built it with a standard 3 gear trans. Pic of the build below.

Yes, our current Origin body and interior actually sits with a ton of room over the transmission. A deeper interior is possible now.

I hear ya. With the new chassis and VP options (offset front axle available anyday now) My wish list of builds keeps growing and not enough time with a toddler running around at home! At least I get the luxury of designing cool stuff and watch what you guys do with it.
