hey guys,

if you were going to build the axial ar44 complete kit axles and wanted a front overdrive of like +5%, what gears set would you order and use where? the kit come with a 30 tooth ring and 8 tooth pinion.

i really cant justify the price of the vanquish axles, even though i love the looks and understand they probably add some nice weight and performance gains. i know there are other ways to add performance for less money.

Yup the 27/8 are front OD. Nothing wrong with axial housings, I've had a few sets of rock jocks and I'm not really a fan. They are good for basic things but the lack of additional upper link options and non removable c hubs makes them tough for custom performance based applications.

Thank you for the confirmation on the ratios. Yeah I hace never thought to myself...if I only had vanquish axles I would have done better.

You can also pickup housings from Boom Racing. They are basically replicas of the Axial AR44 but metal. Add's lots of weight down low, well made and are $35 / ea.

$40 for the gears.
$50 for the Element gearbox.
I went with the Element gearbox in my latest build.
Run a tap in the white gears first when assembling them. If not the hex head will strip.

Hey I just picked one up too. If it works well I am going to get the steel gears. Can you give me more info on tapping the white gears. I guess I’ll know when I get it and build it. What size tap is it?
