Default Which 1.9 Scaler?

Hello all. I've had a Axial Wraith for The Last 5 Years. I'm looking to get my first scaler. I would like to build a kit so I know how to fix it if it breaks, but I'm not completely opposed to a well built RTR. I've built two Short Course Truck Kits in the past, so I'm not so new to building a kit. I just want a scale truck that is a little more interesting and challenging to drive Than The Wraith. I don't have the money for a Vanquish kit. I'm not a brand loyalists either. I want something that's going to be durable, and is fun to drive.

What would you recommend.

Personally, I'd go with the TRX-4 Sport kit. The Enduro kit looks to be a good one when it's released, but that remains to be seen.

A guy that works at my LHS has the trx4 and loves it. I was just reading earlier today about the the new Team Associated Element Sendero truck that looks very promising.

How scale are you wanting?

Axial 10.2 builders kit. Aftermarket support already exists and it's support is endless.

First off, what's your budget for everything? Do you already have electronics or do you need those?

I just dove in myself (to crawling that is) and I can highly recommend the TRX-4. It was a joy to build (not my first kit either). Unfortunately I have nothing to compare it to performance wise but I'm quite impressed with what it can do.

I got the recommended 2 speed kit. Between that, a 20-25kg waterproof servo, a 21 turn motor and a Hobbywing WP-1080, you can fit that in your budget quite easily and have some play money left over.

I also upgraded the wheels/tires which I was told was not immediately necessary but I wanted some steel beadlocks so I figured why not.

Pretty much any popular kit or RTR will fit that budget. Any Axial, Vaterra, and most RC4WD rigs will be in that price range. Nearly every RTR will need new electronics with any heavy usage. Kits generally have better quality pieces than the RTR but lack electronics. So a kit is usually the better deal.

That said. Several manufacturers offer builder’s kits that don’t have wheels/tires, electronics, or a body. Nice option for lots of people out there that already have boxes of wheels/tires and a few bodies laying around.

Just seen that the Axial SCXII Jeep Cherokee RTR is now $299. It comes with metal links and a nice body that looks really cool. I just got a Deadbolt RTR as a gift from my kids a week ago. It's all plastic but the aftermarket has so many options for the Axial rigs I don't think you could go wrong sticking with Axial. You know how good the Wraith is.

Look at the Axial and Traxxas lineups for the most aftermarket support. Vaterra has some good looking rigs, also.

Honestly, I like a 1960s Ford pick-up body that is all rusty and weathered looking like a total POS with Wagon Wheel Steel beadlocks.

So what is a more durable rig, the Traxxas TRX 4, or the Axial SCX10 II?

Steel wagon wheels/D slots can be found lots of places.

Hand down the TRX4. It's kicking holy houses, but Axial QC isn't what it used to be.

If I get the TRX, it will be strictly for crawling. There aren't any Trails where I live. Do I need the two speed tranny, or is the single speed sport good enough. I figured with the two speed and the mini servos, it's just more crap to break

Not necessary if just crawling. Just more stuff to break.
