The Ssd diamond looks perfect under there. Their wraith trans would probably give us the gear ratio needed for high speed. That or a Yeti trans maybe. It's killing me. I want mine now!

Man that looks awesome fxman! Axle swap n those tires really set it off. I think it looks way better than the udr lol

Had to take my Wraith apart. Held in place by just one screw for now I mounted the trans behind the battery holder.
This thing hauls ass now!

All that needed to be done is
- a scx10 rear axle
- longer upper links
- scx10 trans

I didn’t want to cut the inner cage so I raised it slightly for it to clear the trans.
Next task is a trans mount.
What could I use to fill the gap underneath it? Custom piece out of a plastic cutting board maybe? Or just drill four new holes in the bottom and use spacers?

Son of a b****!😮

That’s awesome!

Know anyone with a 3D printer?

If not, I’m sure you could get away with making spacers from a section of cutting board and perhaps a couple longer bolts?

Subscribed!👍🏼

I'm about to grab one of these and will want to do this conversion. I have a 3d printer so will design a trans mount!.

Looks great. Some printed parts would definitely help. How is the pinion angle. Think I'm gonna use a F9 10.2 axle for the higher pinion position. Great work done here.

Epic build!!

I will say that motor on axle is what kinda pulled me into buying the Rampage.
Less maintenance and very robust and having the weight over the rear tires is key for a model is that already tail happy with a lot of suspension travel. This chassis is lightweight and need all the weight you can get over the rear tires and i think a smart design from Kyosho. I agree it does't look the best but for a RWD Basher it's a great setup.

Exactly. The MOA solved a bunch of handling issues, namely torque twist on hard throttle and donkey kick on jumps.

But if scale looks are the priority, this is a great improvement. Very nice!

I fabbed a simple tranny mount that would use the existing holes and threw it all together. Super fun to run it in the driveway and garage. However, first jump off a curb snapped the drive shaft (crappy rc4wd one) off at the trans due to the angle of the then hanging rear axle I guess.
I need to get a better drive shaft and that trans further down - or like you said, the axle pinion up I guess.

So supremely cool what you’re doing here, man. I just pulled out the box of unsensored brushless stuff to see to see if there’s anything in there that wouldn’t overwhelm your drivetrain. Could donate an old but fresh Hobbywing 10.5T or Castle 4600, but looks like you might have that part already figured out?—it’s here if you need either one. Thanks for charting a truly original course and good luck. It’s a great read.

What would you do to remedy these issues? It looks great but if it performs poorly then I couldn't bring myself to do it.

Weight over the rear axle helps with the donkey kick / nose-down attitude over jumps, so if more weight was added where the spare tires are it could help offset the weight lost by removing the MOA. Torque twist is a different story because it's inherent to all traditional solid axle trucks. For example, the Traxxas UDR has a planetary gearset inside the axle to reduce torque twist, and the 4 wheel drive with center diff helps too. On a converted Rampage you'd have to play around with suspension tuning to try to dial it out (and/or unlock the rear diff, if possible).

I certainly don't want to discourage anyone from trying the conversion. If you were running reasonable power levels and driving in a scale manner, these "issues" might not even be noticeable. OP seems to be happy with his, and he's the expert in the room.

Have you converted your Rampage to a solid axle?

No, maybe I should have clarified that. I'm comparing the way a non-converted Rampage drives to the way other traditional solid axle trucks drive (specifically the Losi Rey and Yeti Score). So I'm assuming a converted Rampage would pick up the same handling quirks common to the others. I could be wrong.

Apologies to the OP if this is derailing the thread.
