Default First crawler, need help picking electronics

Hey all, brand new to crawling. After doing some research, I have decided on buying the Traxxas TRX-4 Sport kit - Link to TRX-4 Sport Kit

Now I need some help picking electronics (I'm used to my bashers having the biggest and fastest brushless motors I can fit in them )

Suggestions for motor/ESC/servo/batteries/radio/receiver?

Holmes Hobbies Trailmaster Sport 21t or 27t, Hobbywing 1080. As far as servo, something 20+kg will be plenty. Radio and batteries are also dependant on budget.

Benefits/differences between a 21T and 27T motor?

And for the radio/receiver, are there certain ones that are better than others for crawling? Or just go with what I want?

The 21t will be faster, but either will be fine.
As for a radio, I'd suggest something with at least 4 channels so that you have a bit of room to grow. Then if you add a winch or other accessories, you can control them.

I've run my HW1080 and HH 550 21T for quite some time now and I love it, it was cheap and of great quality. The slow speed control was great, top end speed was tons of fun. I decided to go Mamba Monster X and 1406 3800KV slate motor, just cause I want to have ridiculous power + 6S.

I am new to crawling too. I have just finished a build on the TRX-4 Sport kit and I went with the standard Titon 550 21T (it works great but we will see how it hold out. With what I know now I would have gone HH 550 21T), its hooked up to a HW1080 ESC. I grabbed a cheapo 25KG servo from Amazon and that certainly seems to be doing the job - although I am running it at 6 volts so its probably 21/22kg per cm.

For the radio I went with a FS-GT3C - its only 3 channel but is rechargeable and has plenty of configuration.

I did add a few other mods such as beadlock wheels and some brass portal covers up front to add some weight. I also added the TRX-4 fender kit, mainly to keep the truck a bit cleaner, but it also has a shorty pack battery tray in front of the front axle. So I am using some shorty 2s and 3s packs up front. In fact just this moring I order a Gens Ace Soft Case Shorty 3S HV 11.4v LiPo 3600mAh 50C to fit up front and give me a bit longer running time.

I had my first run last weekend and love the TRX-4 Sport kit truck, am sure you will have loads of fun with it.

I would say anything above 3000mah 7.4V that is ROAR approved. Venom, Protek, Common Sense RC batteries are good. You'll need an adapter to hook your traxxas connector to a deans. Stay away from cheap Chinese ones on Ebay.

I'll be soldering on my own connectors, so there's no restrictions there

Just trying to decide 2S vs 3S and what mAh size

Why does it need to be Roar approved? It only needs to be Roar approved if you are racing at a track. With crawlers it doesn't matter

I just built my first crawler as well, my electronics choice was
Hobbywing 1080 esc
Axial 55t motor
Flysky gt3b radio (comes with 3 channel receiver)
Gens ace 2s 7.4v 5000mah Lipo
Generic 20kg servo from Amazon (-20$)

I can say, I am super happy with the set up. My truck isn’t fast at all but at low speed it climbs like a son’bitch! I cheaped our on the tires and I’m sure it will do even better with quality ones.
The Gens Ace battery is AMAZING, It seriously last forever.
The flysky receiver drains batteries like nothing (8AA).
But you can easily reword it to take a 11.1v Lipo which I will be doing.
The servo is so far good enough and it comes with a metal horn.
As for the ESC, it’s easy to work with and even programable to an extent I don’t even understand fully yet.

As I said, this was my first build and first time trying out ‘crawler like electronics. So just take my opinion as a beginner too! Just saying this all works for me and it works well!

Hope this helps.
