Default Cheap narrow axles

I Like the looks of narrow axles under my scale Land Rovers and Range Rovers but narrow axles are expensive and not that common. I could buy an MST or a Boomracing but I like to build my own chassis so kit axles are not an option for me.

Now I found out how to narrow decent axles for a decent price.

The subjects are Fimonda SCX10 axles from Aliexpress https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale...dat+scx10+axle

Axle done, original axle. 8mm per side shorter, 16mm total.

The green circles are the original locations where the mounting screws are. The red one becomes the new location, exactly 8 mm difference.

To be able to slide the shafts inwards, a piece of 5mm has to be removed. Coincidentally, that's exactly the thinner part of the tube. This is easy to do with a hacksaw.

The shorter tubes are in, that was the easy part. First problem arrives, the bridge was fixed a tree points but two of them are now being used to keep the tubes in.

I drilled two 2.5mm holes and used a M3 tap. now the bridges are back on the axle.

Next problem.

The supports no longer fit. I could make them fit, but then they are also 8mm inside compared to the old location and that is not right because the chassis will remain at the same width.

Solution, draw and print something yourself.

Nice work! They look great!

MST MPA axles are available by themselves... Great little axles, and very narrow.

Those look great. What material did you print those link mounts with?

If you have the tap why not just drill and tap new holes for the mount?

Judging by the pic, the issue is a lack of room.

There were two problems.

The original mount didn't fit anymore and the holes moved 8mm to the inside of the axle.

I could make the mount fit but than the shocks would go to the inside of the frame or just right under it.

My quickly drawn mount has an 8mm offset so everything mounted to it would be in the original location.

I still have to make a stronger mount but that is not a problem.

Next step.

Cutting the inner axles 8mm shorter and brazing them together.

Starting distance rear axle

8mm shorter and brass tube over the cut. Find tubes with a narrow fit, it will help to align the axles. They must also be thin enough to fit in the outer axle.

Went to a friend who has a brazing kit, my hobby burner was not hot enough.

First time brazing for me but is was easy. Just keep the flame on the steel and not on the brass.

I wish Axial would shorten their axles from the factory
