Crawler for "buggy" use

Hi,i am fairly new to RC "cars". I have a Tamiya rally car but want something to use on more rugged ground, longish grass, bumps and jumps BUT want a good turn of speed, not ballistic ,to keep up with a buggy, not a top end race car ,a boomerang or topforce etc.

I realise I can just buy a buggy/truggy BUT i just don't like the styling,i really like the crawler style.

i have seen the rock racer style which will fit the bill to. the thing is i do not know what crawler kits will be ok for this use. don't know if the gearing or diffs will be up to "faster" use. Also i am in the UK and kit options are not great. i would also like a kit build not RTR.

sorry for the long question but any pointers tips would be really great thanks

Several choices really............

Bomber
Rock Rey
Twin Hammers
Yeti

Even a Wraith can be set up to be a bit more of a rock racer than crawler.

Keep in mind, and as you seem to be aware, none of the above are going to be as fast or handle as well as a race buggy or short course truck.

Happy hunting!

i have a wraith cage on a short course chassie its fast dosent crawl to well though its ok for trails fun on a track but tall grass isent vary freindly the grass keeps wraping up in the axles probably ok in tightly trimed grass like in a park but not in a unmaintained field

the yeti xl did awsome in the grass also the clod buster did awsome in the grass the wraith was just ok the big tires help but the grass can still lock up drivetrain and break or burn out parts the bomber would be the same way they have the same axles
the 1/10 yeti might be a good choice its fast it can crawl its way up a hill but it wont do everything as good as a dedicated rig it has the big tires and can be set up tall to crawl or low to haul and is a true rock racer but it still wont do well in tall grass stock but you might be able to fab something up but the rear axle is the same as the wraith and bomber so you would be pulling grass off the axles alot

Agreed. Another thing you might consider is size. If you are running with Tamiya buggies, the Bomber, Yeti and Rock Rey are going to look huge next to it. The Twin Hammers will also look bigger, but less so. I am not sure what is out there for 1/12 scale rock racers, but you might take a look . Here is a pic of the Wild One, Bomber, Frog, Twin Hammers and Yeti for reference

Looks to me like you're seriously in need of a Capra. [emoji2957]

When you reach the "every day and a half" point, it's time to buy the Capra...I give you until the day after Thanksgiving.

I thought the Twin hammers was the one to go for BUT it looks like its not available anymore!
I am in the UK and no shops have it, one shop said HH don't stock it anymore and thinks its out of production, not seen it online also!
I see the Capra mentioned a lot, would go with that BUT a shop that does have in stock said it would be "terrible" for my needs.
when he asked what is is for he said I need a Traxxas Maxx, I agree BUT hate the style.
Think I will have to give up on this one

I'd never let a shop tell me what I need.

i would agree with the hobby shop sounds like a traxxass would be your best choice but you dont like it so onward the yeti is awsome but i think it to is discontinued i would never think of the capra as a go fast or a basher and not having one i just.thought of tbem as crawlers but then i watched exocaged video and changed my mind it looks like it handles the power realy good and it looks to fly good lol check it out make up your own mind
