Acrylic chassis rails Hi all, I want to 3d print this for fun but the chassis rails won't fit on my bed. A mate of mine said he can laser cut me the rails but he is only allowed to use acrylic or wood at his work. He said he can do 4.5mm thick acrylic.. Has anyone got any experience/have any indication if 4.5mm acrylic would be rigid enough? https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3340951 Sent from my Phone 2 using Tapatalk |
Re: Acrylic chassis rails Acrylic will crack. If he can do g10 that's good stuff. It's reinforced and compressed resin. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |
Re: Acrylic chassis rails Wood would be better then acrylic probably. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |
Re: Acrylic chassis rails Honestly, I would NOT recommend it. It's not a matter of whether, or not, they are rigid enough. Acrylic is a fragile material, and could crack, or shatter, fairly easily. Years ago, I worked in the Plastic industry, so I know of what I speak. now, there is the possibility that lexon, or any generic cast polycarbonate, could work, but I'm not going to go so far as to say it's "will" work. ~ More peace, love, laughter & kindness would make the world a MUCH better place |
Re: Acrylic chassis rails Thanks guys. I'll see if someone local can print it Sent from my Phone 2 using Tapatalk |
Re: Acrylic chassis rails I used 1/8" polycarbonate for chassis rails. It works but requires a lot of reinforcing to make rigid. It can work, if designed right.... I wouldn't touch Acrylic. |
Re: Acrylic chassis rails +1 on acrylic being way too fragile for crawler truck frame rails. Acrylic is good for fake glass, that's about it. |
Re: Acrylic chassis rails What types of exotic woods do you have access to? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...42f47d6d06.jpg |
