You don't even need a kit like that. Just get a bottle of Aluminum Black, made by Birchwood Casey. They also make other products for other metals, such as Brass Black.

I sell Birchwood Casey, Caswells does not degrade with time as Birchwoods does. Been using in the gun shop for years. It is also a stonger solution so it acts quicker.

Good to know. Thanks. Does Casey only make it for aluminum, or other metals as well?

Congrats on the pre-order! The Ultra looks like it is going to be awesome! I know how great the PRO is, so the Ultra is like having the best of both worlds!

I hear you on the black axles. I love the look of the black, but just didn't want to go thru the agony of scratching off the black. That is the reason why I went with clear on my Origin and PRO. But after reading the last few posts, it sounds like there may be a cure for covering up the scratches. Later this year, I may give in and pick up a black version of the Ultra.

They had a black for steel, it never sold in the shop so unsure if it is still made. They still have a couple forms of blue for steel that can be used to touch up bolts, ect.

I ordered the 21% OD for the transmission, but after seeing Harley's video last night of mid-twenty something percentage of OD (he didn't state the exact percentage is) just by changing the rear portal gears may have been a slightly better and cheaper way to go.

I'm also thinking about upgrading the standoffs to the aluminum versions just because they look nice.

Thanks! If I should have chose any version for black it probably should have been the Ultra since the portal axles, and the extra clearance, probably makes it so those axles drag on the rocks a little less.

We're on schedule to get all orders shipped by Monday, which was our goal. Many orders were shipped today, but if you didn't get a notification yet don't worry as it will still ship out on time!

Wow! It's cool to see these Ultra's shipping out right after they were unveiled!

I had to wait about a month for my Origin and PRO pre-order to ship.

Great job VP!

Nice work! Mine is scheduled to be here Friday. Be early, UPS, be early! PA is a long way from Cali, though.

Harley is livestreaming the build.

I am finally going to have to give into Vanquish and the VS4-10 platform and order one of these. I have one question, try not to flame me on this one (I did read through a few threads to try a figure this out). What motor/ESC is most suited for this rig?

Received my Ultra kit today. A completely different body will be used by me - not remotely close the the Vanquish body. Just to be different.
Should be interesting.

If you are going brushless they recommend a 3100kv motor. I found that to be too fast for my liking on 3S in the Limited. I believe the Pro and Ultra have different final gearing.

For ESC's I highly recommend the Mamba X.

The Ultra is a Pro since it has the VFD transmission.
