| crawler for a 4 year old
Guys, my 4 year old son loves watching rock crawler videos on youtube. He is asking me to get one with lights. He wants to take it to mud puddles Any recommendations? Thanks. |

| Re: crawler for a 4 year old For a 4 year old, I'd recommend the Traxxas 1/16 Summit. Easy to work on/find parts - very necessary!

1. You won't get parts for it, ever, is it so bloody bad for me to pass that info on? If something breaks, it's done, garbage. 2. It's the slow boat from China right now, my apologies again for conveying that information to you 3. The intention is to answer the damn question YOU asked, for Christ sake, how terrible of me. Can you tell us what exactly he is looking at? The crawler world has so many different styles. It might help with making a better recommendation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by HugoBiermann; 08-07-2020 at 07:37 AM. | |

First you can upgrade the car I posted up the wazoo with WPL parts if you want, second here in Europe it needs a week tops to arrive from BG and third IDGAF about you answering my question I think the jeep is the perfect gift for that little bugger. Redcat Everest 10. It's big, it crawls well, it's durable, it's inexpensive & it's slow so he'll be able to handle it easy.

This whole deal took a hard left turn.. but he wasn’t the original poster. I’m with you though, I wouldn’t waste my time or money on something like that. To the OP I’d definitely think the redcat Everest or 1/16 traxxas summit would be a great choice. Something you could put at like 50% throttle to begin with would be ideal, I’ll see what I can find in that sense. I got my son a 2.2 wraith when he was 3. I have one aswell. He learned how to drive it accordingly in a short time. Now he's 6, and both our trucks are running brushless systems and he breaks way less parts then I do. So I'd recommend staying away from the cheap small no name trucks. I would recommend getting a couple traxxas trx4s, so you each have one. A 4 year old can control a real crawler/trail truck just fine. He wont be winning any comps though, but with some practice and you teaching him, he'll pick up on it fast and you'll both be enjoying the outdoors together. Definitely look into waterproofing your trucks for the puddles, just because it claims waterproof on the box does not mean get it wet and it'll be fine. It won't be. You'll need to use marine grease in all the bearings, and on the gears ( not the pinion and spur though), need to either seal your tires, or get closed cell foams and vent the tires themselves, and clean the trucks and lightly spray them down with a silicone spray after going in the mud. There's more to do, but that's a good start. And keep in mind you'll probably end up spending quite a bit more then the initial buy in. But its well worth it. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk |

Obvious answer is scx24. Affordable, replaceable, upgradeable, water resistant, lights and a 3rd on-off-on channel. Not as big as yours, but neither is a 4yr old's worldview.

I guess it really depends on the people, my dad has been into Rc’s my whole life. My first rig 25 years ago was a tamiya super beetle. But before I was 10, my younger brother and I raced 1/10th scale Nitro trucks. Back then there were hardly any kids involved, and we would stand on boxes so we could see the track. The bug bit me but not my brother, but it wasn’t because he didn’t get the chance. I guess what I’m saying is, go all out and if he enjoys it as much as you do awesome. If not, can’t say you didn’t try. Sorry for the ramble Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I set up a 1.9 Wraith for my kids (4 and 5 years old). I put a couple upgrades on it because I had them sitting around, but its mostly stock. Those have a switch on the radio to limit speed to 50, 75, or 100%. IMO its a good setup for kids because you dont have to run a body and the cage will handle rollovers and such. They come with lights and the electronics are waterproof from the factory. I do recommend a different battery tray since the stock one just relies on the hood to hold the battery down.

I started my son on a Redcat Gen7 (he'd had high speed bashers since he was 3, and got this first crawler when he was around 8 or 9) and my daughter on a WLToys 10428 Twin Hammers clone. She was around 6 at the time. My observations: 1. Buy something with good parts support. Kids generally only understand WOT and stop, with nothing in between. 2. Buy something with good parts support. Kids don't like broken toys. 3. Buy something with good parts support. Durability is a good idea too, but you could hand a kid a granite block and within an hour they'd still find a way to break it. Make sure you can fix it. |
