Exclamation AR44 Underdrive ring and pinion

Never thought I’d see the day, but vanquish stepped up and made it happen.

So many possible applications/setups. Capra peeps should be all over this.

Haven’t found it on their site yet but here’s from their social media

And they’re up...

https://www.vanquishproducts.com/ar4...ar-set-33t-8t/

Really want these but I’m going to wait until I need some more vp stuff or I can find them at Amain though because it’s just over $50 with shipping for the gears alone.

But if you go direct, Dan will personally sign your invoice and Josh will draw on the box! Can’t get that service anywhere else!

Truly is incredible it took this long. I have two over/under driven rigs now and the performance benefits are undeniable at the moments it’s designed for

Nice, I wasn't aware the AR44 was behind in parts compared to the AR60?

44 seems more popular?

I believe it had to do with the physical size of the ar44 r&p and the fact that they are slightly under driven compared to the og scx10/ar60 r&p. Then again I could be totally wrong.

I'm interested in putting these in my 10iii to go along with the tgh mild od portal gears. If my crappy math is close to right it should land me in a happy medium between the mild and wild option.

Apparently the testing went well if they're willing to sell them.

I ran the OD gear set (about 24% description and link below*) plus 6% in an Enduro trans and I liked how it drove .

Unfortunately the shaft on the pinion broke within a week BUT I did get to see how things worked at 30%. Now I am running the axial 12% OD and the almost 12% in the Enduro tans. I was planning on going with the Hot Racing gear set for the Enduro transmission along with the 12% OD in the axial (about 36% OD), but I think I will give this a try instead.

I've been running those 8/24 gears for a bit now. They seem to be working great and at $10 a pop, hard not to like them. They're available on Aliexpress if Amazon doesn't get stock soon, I just ordered a few backups.

I run a little extra caster to help with steering so I may be putting a little more stress on it then normal. I did like the amount overdrive they offered and the price for sure.

I’m surprised to see so many people here running higher (numerical lower) gears or as most here say overdrive. A lower (numerically higher) ratio reduces stress on components upstream like the driveshafts and transfer case. I’d think it would be better to run lower gears in the axle and regain your wheel speed from the gears at the motor. Another thing I’ve seen is so many people disliking portals, that gear reduction at the hub takes stress off the axle shafts. Overdriving just the front has got to play hell on the drivetrain when not on dirt/sand/snow. Maybe I’m stuck in the 1:1 world? Owned my scx10.2 a couple weeks now so this stuff is intriguing. What says the experts?

Until this gearset came out the only option was to overdrive the front. The claim by manufactures was the ring gear would be too big to fit in the housing. (scx10II) Then traxxas released the trx4 with portal axles and suddenly the forum was divided, for portals or against. The Traxxas rig is robust with a healthy aftermarket to rival the old King Axial, and can be made to perform very well. The advantage the Axial has over the Traxxas, aka Non portal vs Portal, is the lower Cg, and much lighter weight overall.

Axial has since released the Scx10III and all the apples are being shaken again.

As far as running the od in a rig, there is usually no problems due to the fact that rc's are so overbuilt to begin with. Then there is the electric motors.... 100% tq @ 0 rotation,

Only full scale rig that comes close to what an rc can do is a competitive Ultra 4 car. imo

I am not an expert,

I like higher OD% but I am only running 7-10 minutes at a time for a competition. The only drive line related item I broke was a $12 cheap gear. It is common to see people running 30%+ on comp rigs 12% on trail rigs.

Some of the dislike for portal gears comes from the "they aren't scale group" who run non scale tires in sizes not seen on any vehicle. And then tires that don't exist in the 1:1 world, when is the last time you say a 1:1 running Hyrax tires. Then there are the coil over shocks rarely seen on any 1:1 vehicle. But God forgive those who run portals.

Then you have some comp people who think portals are only for those who can't drive.
