Axial homber 2.0 a good crawler? Deciding to get a rc. Deciding between "crawlers" like trailwalker, gen 8v2 or gatekeeper. But...the bomber has my attention. Your thoughts on crawling ability? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk |
Re: Axial homber 2.0 a good crawler? I have an original bomber. it will mop the floor with most trail trucks, because it has bigger tires and wider axles. Sent from my SM-G960W using Tapatalk |
Re: Axial homber 2.0 a good crawler? I have a wraith that I turned into a wroncho. They both crawl like a mother! I also have a TRX 4 sport. The trx4 is a little more challenging to crawl with, but my wraith/wroncho is way more fun to drive. Sent from my LM-G710VM using Tapatalk |
Re: Axial homber 2.0 a good crawler? The Bomber is a decent rig out of the box to crawl with and there are quite a bit of things you can do to make it really good with time and a few bucks. I just finished converting my Bomber over to the High Altitude Performance LCG skid and front motor setup and the thing crawls so much better now. You shouldn't have any regret going this route. |
Re: Axial homber 2.0 a good crawler? Just my .02 - if you are new to this they all crawl well. Just grab a rig, get your feet wet, and when you are ready for round 2 you will be good enough with technique, preference, and terrain to refine your selection. That Bomber is big though, I’d want something a little smaller and cheaper for my first rig. Axial 10ii, Element Enduro, Redcat Gen8 or similar price range. |
Re: Axial homber 2.0 a good crawler? The Bomber's stock gearing is a bit tall, and the break over angle a bit lacking due to the long wheelbase for strictly crawling purposes. Neither of these are a permanent issue. The rear trailing arms are easily swapped out for "Wraith" length, and a smaller pinion gear gets you closer to the ideal ratio. While the bigger tires and wider stance help the Bomber tackle really rough terrain, the side effect is that milder terrain becomes almost boring. The smaller tires of the 1.9" wheeled scale trucks allow more terrain to be a challenge. |
Re: Axial homber 2.0 a good crawler? With my bomber, I swapped out the transmission to use a SCX 10 3 gear setup with the motor being front mounted. The spur/pinion ended up being 56/10 and using a 540 Puller Pro 3500kv brushless, I found crawling in this configuration to be awesome. I spent 4-5 hours in the Sierra Nevada's on some very steep granite faces and the Bomber had no issues at all. The stock tires are ok but they were clearly out performed when I mounted my 2.2 Hyrax. Side hilling wasn't too much of a problem, outperformed my vs4-10 ultra due to having stiffer foams in the rear. Overall, I think that if you want a rig that can do trailing or crawling, you won't make a wrong choice here. Stock, the Bomber is fun and can give you a good time but to get the most of out it you will have the fun of replacing parts and tuning :) |
Re: Axial homber 2.0 a good crawler? Some thoughts to consider: 1)Will you be running the rig solo or with others? In my experience it’s more fun to run with a similar class rig to those around you. 2)1.9ers are challenged by lesser terrain than 2.2’s, so it’s often easier to find fun and more crawl spots. 3) 1.9ers are more common trail trucks 4) 1.9 c-channel scalers are typically easier to work on. So a much more comfortable experience on the bench. |

Yea. Number 4 x10 billion. I hate having to work on my Wraith or Bomber. |
Re: Axial homber 2.0 a good crawler? Thanks guys, leaning towards the trailwalker or sendero HD (just announced). I also have to stop thinking this is my one and only rig. Start out with one of these then get a wraith or bomber. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

Sendero IMO. You'll be happier with a 1.9 rig, more tire selections, easier to wheel as you get into the skill part of the hobby. Just my .02 Plus the sendero is bad ass looking lol |
