New Capra?

Not sure if I missed the thread or not but here it is for those not on social media.

Axial dropping a new truck tomorrow. Looks like a lasernut licensed 4WS Capra based rig. Got my attention.

Saw this on IG too. Definitely is interesting. I'm planning to do an R1 based build too.

Huh, how about that factory rear steer. Wonder if they have a different controller to use instead of the standard dx3 or are you just using the push up and push down button to turn the rear.

Re: New Capra?

Very interesting, I’ll be curious what sort of electronics and setup it’s running as well as a price point. I just built a 4ws Capra with some knock off axles and sold it before I ever drove it.

Re: New Capra?

Could be cool...but, I've already "moved on" from the Capra. Besides, the custom-build C3 I ran at Scale Natls was a 4WS Capra, running two front Vanquish Currie F9 Axles & SSD portal knuckles (with portal knuckles weights on the true front).

I'm very interested to see what they did about servo to chassis clearance.

My guess is that it'll be like the 10.3 rtr where you can use the dig, or the 2 speed, but not both with the stock radio. Otherwise they might have to include a real radio, which seems unlikely given Axials past.

Re: New Capra?

Exactly as meatmonkey said.

I have a 4ws capra and the rear servo contacts the back of the chassis limiting the rear suspension. You can cut the chassis for clearance, but I'm curious to see how Axial went about it...

The rear part of the cage is a little different. Just have to wait for the cage parts I guess if you want to convert.

Honestly, converting the OG Capra to 4WS isn't all that difficult, and something many of us did. I'm not sure why, but, in looking at the photos on the website, the Axial version looks to possibly have less strength in the rear. If might just be visual perception, as the photos don't show the right angle, and that red cage makes it even more difficult to see. Based on the past numbers, almost the entire cage appears to be a redesign. Even the fuel cell is different.

Very helpful! Thank you for sharing.

With the rear stretched a tad it may give them a little more servo clearance but also may help for climbing. Cool to see.

Looks like it sits very slightly lower as well

Hm, I like it. Im back and forth on the red cage. It looks good, but also looks toyish at the same time.

Otherwise, cool release. Wonder what retail is...

Interesting...it appears, there are a number of changes beyond just the cage, as the wheelbase is also longer, thus longer rear links. One would have to go over the complete parts list, part-by-part, to determine all the changes. For anyone wanting to take one of the original Capra, and convert it to 4WS, looks like you'd be MUCH better off cutting away part of the original cage, and replacing the rear axle with a front axle. Testing to go the route of replacing the OG cage with the 4WS cage could prove far more costly.

Those might just be a "visual trick", caused by the larger diameter tires. Only way to know, for certain, is to have, side-by-side, an original RTR & 4WS RTR, and measure them.

In agreement on the "toyish" look. If they follow the same route as the original Capra, they'll probably release a kit version within a few months. When they do, maybe they'll follow what they did with the Ryft Kit, releasing it with a light gray dyeable cage. Then, petite can make the cage whatever color they want

Idk, look at the angle of the links. It looks lower. Hopefully they put the 90mm shocks on them, I’m sure they know that’s one of the first things people do…

Re: New Capra?

The perspectives of each photo are slightly different, so the differences between the chassis might be exaggerated. Plus I'm guessing on the scale a bit since the photos were different sizes.
