Default General Question about High Clearance Links.

Thinking it might be nice to have some High Clearance links on my SCX10iii.

When Googling around, I see some companies sell Lower AND Upper high clearance links in kits.

Other companies give you a choice to have only Lower High clearance links and Uppers that are straight.

Does anyone have a vehicle where the upper links might get caught on an obstacle?

On my SCX10iii, the upper links are never going to be a clearance issue. They are tucked up and out of the way.

I cant think of any reason (on my SCX10iii) for bent upper links. Am I missing something? ....Maybe a Geometry issue?.....Lowering of the Chassis issue?

Anyone have an opinion?

The uppers are bent to clear the high clearance lowers. Some straight uppers may clear the lowers, but when you've got crazy bends like this, they both need to be bent...

Is there a need for high clearance in the front or is it just for looks?

Looking at Elements FT link selection it seems they only offer lower high clearance links @ 127mm, not seeing anything for upper in the 121mm range. I guess it's not needed on the Element platforms.

I avoid high clearance in the front and just focus on the rear.

High clearance fronts are mostly an opinion, or slightly determined by your terrain.
Many will say that a high clearance front lower will help get the front tire over a ledge, but then the ledge is wedged into a bend of links/skid that it won't easily drag over.
Straight front links, leave you with a straight drag angle from tire to skid. But that will often depend on the angle of your skid, the overall height, the snagginess of your terrain, etc etc.
Like said above... you may be trying to clear shafts, servos/esc, lower links, etc... not just the ground.
On a few of my rigs, I've used high clearance fronts, but had them tilted in for steering clearance vs height clearance.
Also, rears are more popular bc people are more likely to angle that axle up to shift the shaft up... but thats less common up front without HIGHLY adjustable C-hubs and CMS.

I've never really paid attention to whats offered, I've just made my own to exactly what I needed. If it rubbed something and couldn't be tweaked with an angled ball end... it got bent.
