| JimK's Krawler Kourse
Well....I have this spot in the back corner behind my shed that's been collecting junk for a couple of years now. So I decided to clean it up and make a small crawler course for my small scale trucks. It's roughly 12 x 12 feet and although it's compact it will be a great spot to run my tiny trucks. Anything will look better than all the cr@p that's been accumulating there. I started by cleaning up the area and tossing all the unusable stuff into my utility trailer for a trip to the landfill. There is some lumber and stumps that may come in handy later on so I'll hang on to that for now. All cleaned up and I've started to bring in some rock and flagstone that I had laying around from some other projects in back yard. I plan to hang the canoe on the other side of the shed at a later date to open the area up a bit more. I folded down the two big bins and put them in opposite corners to add some elevation. These bins are 4 x 5 feet and pretty sturdy so piling rocks on them won't be an issue. Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk Last edited by JimK; 03-18-2023 at 01:31 PM. |

I started bringing in some more rock and flagstone. This was a bonus because it also cleaned up the back end of my driveway as well as cleaning up behind the shed. The base of the area is all limestone screening and gravel so it won't get muddy even when the weather is wet. Some nice chunks of wood and some good lumber scraps that might come in handy for the build. I used an old wood step and a couple sturdy pallet pieces to add some contours to the one elevated area. I started placing rocks on the front right elevated area. Stumps, lumber and flagstone made a nice ramp to get on and off the mountain. I kept my SCX24 Gladiator handy to test thing out as I went and make changes accordingly. Using a big stump and some strips of lumber I built a bridge to span the two elevated sections. I got the back platform rocked in and made a little path out of some log "discs" I had laying around. A sturdy pressure treated piece of 2 x 6 and some flagstone made a nice ramp up to the plateau. A couple flat rocks and chunks of wood made a quick little feature next to the shed. Not sure if it will stay there but it's a little something to play on for now. The TRX4M got the testing duties this time. Bronco build thread to come shortly. The bridge between the two plateaus was fun but it was a hassle to step over and blocked access to the back corner so I removed it and used a couple wood strips to make a ramp up/down the back area. Same thing for the front section but I used a couple pieces of old split rail I had on hand. Don't tell my wife, I think she other other plans for that stuff. It's much easier now to move around on the course and get into the back corner. A nice little birch limb provides a bit of a challenge in the front section and looks nice too. Envious of all that flagstone. I built my much more boring and smaller section with rip-rap... concrete chunks lol. Looks like a fun little crawling area.. Can't beat that it's just outside your door.

Well I took down the bridge between the two elevated sections and now I decided I don't care for the ramp of logs and wood that goes up the side of the front section either. Took that down and replaced it with this challenging little rock garden. I also moved the ramp to the back section over closer to the shed to open up the front area. This picture shows it tight to the shed but I moved it out about 6" to be able to drive behind it. Forgot to snap a picture of that. Got most of the back corner done now. Nice chunky rock section across the back area. Still need a bit more stone to fill in some areas but it's getting there. An old piece of pallet makes a good little bridge over to the log incline up the mountain. Sliced a piece of birch limb from a tree I took down to make a little bridge out from the back section. | Re: JimK's Krawler Kourse Thanks. It is convenient for sure. There are some parks and hiking trails not too far away that I take my 10th scale trucks to but this will be nice for my little rigs. Perfect for when the grandkids come over too.

I like the progress so far! Looks like a perfect place to wheel the smaller TRX-4m! I'm taking notes! I really need to build something like this for my little Bronco! |

Well, I had the day off on Monday and the weather was great Monday and Tuesday so I was able to nearly finish the Krawler Kourse. I laid in a bit more rock and beach stone in the back corner. I also got the front left section all rocked in. You can drive back in behind the ramp up to the plateau. You can also cross over from ramp to the path behind in both directions which is kinda fun. A different angle from underneath the rock ramp....sort of a tunnel. Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk Last edited by JimK; 03-22-2023 at 11:07 AM. |
