well i am about to trash my " Black Widow" setup and build another one now. I am planning on using the Stampede trans in this setup with a gear reduction unit also. So who has used the Pede trans and do you have any pics?I now someone has posted a pic of a friends truck with one, but no "body off" pics.. I am looking for some ideas on which way to go with it. I had it in my "Mutant" truck and it seemed to do very well, with the exception of the idler gear. but other than that, it is very light and a simple trans. As of right now, i want the Pede trans,Maxx axles( unless i can find a hell of a deal on some SA),Super chicken,MM motor with reduction unit on it. now im just kinda stuck on a chassis, so wheres the pics guys, i need some ideas and i'm braindead

yeah i seen the sold a metal idler gear, but it said something like not for use with top steel gear and that's what i have..besides with the diff section being plastic, i would kind of like a weak link before that outer gear would get detroyed..but maybe its stronger than what i think :?

I have a complete pede and have always loved it. Not sure how the tranny would handle all the torque and big, heavy rubber. I remember always having to replace tranny gears when I ran it alot. I did the all metal gear set up and stripped the idler gear. It seemed that there was never a good set up, as something always lost it's teeth after a short time. I think and hoped it really had to do with jumping while on throttle though. Possibly, crawling would not cause this? I also would like details on how people have mounted it, what drive shafts you can use with it and an honest review of the durability. I just have a hard time believing that it is tough! Jumping from 2.2 tires to BFT's or similar, seems like it would play havoc with the light weight tranny, regardless of what type of wheeling.

Pete, I ran it in my last project "Mutant" and i had beat the shit out of it. it was basically a Emaxx with the Pede tranny, locked F&R, w/ the BFT tires on it. it seemed to hold up pretty good, but never really had a good motor in it. not sure if it was my fault from crawling or when i jumped it alot back when it was still a Stampede, but i was climbing up out of a hole and got into a small bind with it and broke 3 teeth off the idler gear. The part was $2.58 at my LHS and a piece of cake to swap out( had the trans out, fixed and put back in the truck in about 10-15 mins.) I like the idea of using it since it is so light and simple, but i still have my Maxx tranny sitting here and not sure. but would like to try it in something else. as for mounting it,( picture the Emaxx chassis) i cut the center of the chassis out bigger, made a steel plate,( ahh hell, i'll just go snap a pic or 2..LOL) anyway, had the tranny turned sideways( with a locked diff). i used Maxx sliders and the maxx u-joints. i had to shave down 2 sides of the u-joint as to they are alot bigger than the Pede output flanges. ( out to go snap some pics, be back in a bit) but honestly, i had beat the shit out of the " Mutant" and only had 2 problems. a broken axle( let a rookie friend of mine play with it-heres' to ya doug back with pics

here is just a simple plate i made to mount it on ![]() sitting on there ![]() back view ![]() if ya look close, you can see with the Maxx u-joint was shaved on the sides to fit into the smaller pede stuff( correction from above- i used the Pede axles and shaved the Maxx u-joint to fit into the output flange on the front of the Maxx axles) yeah it's hacked, but it works

sorry i was at a wedding they say that for radio interfeirence, but if you were to look at the pede forum on traxxas.com and search, many of us have been using the sluminum and steel gears together without any problems because we just ude a bit of non-petrolium based greese to lubricate the gears Ian

I've been running a pede tranny with the following bits Steel top gear (stock) Aluminum idler Cold fusion steel diff gear It's going in my crawler soon but I did run it with IMEX pullers on a pede with a 17t for a while-did the hole "full forward to full reverse" wheelie thing and never got a hickup (I'm also running the slipper clutch eliminater). The pullers are 5" tall (clod tire is 6") so it would be my guess that a pede tranny would be okay for a bigger rig. Also when you factor in the gear reduction from your axles bigger tires really shouldn't put that much more strain on your tranny than say a puller would. You might want to talk to some of the ORCRC guys aswell-they seem to use pede trannys pretty often in there bigger rigs.

Hey toyota if u do drop the widow chassis would you be intersted in selling it? I would like to take it off your hands and rework it a little for a pede trans. I weld decently enough to tackle it. Let me know. Thanks!
