Default Skinny or wide track width? What do you run?

I seem to be one of the few that likes to keep my track width as skinny as possible. I have thought about getting my hands on some wideners for my jugg so I could measure how much more side angle I could tlt the truck before it would flip. Right now the COG is pretty low with knuckle packs and lead weights under the rear knuckles.

With a narrow track width, I feel I have better lines to pick from, and less of a chance of hanging up on the diff.

Jugg width 13.25 inches outside to outside of tires with moab XL's
TLT 9.6 inches with masher 2k's on rc4wd beadlocks.

I used to run wiiiiiide axles in mine. The width was nice on an off camber but was a PAIN getting through the gates. Away from the comps,I liked the width. Now that I'm running narrowed Twin axles,it's more comp freindly at the gates. I've adjusted my suspention to aid side hilling and it's doing better in that aspect. I think I'll keep them. I've still got my wide housings so in about 20 minutes I could be back to the wide width,if I wanted.

Now I am nowhere near as experienced as most of you here, so correct me if I'm wrong. My thought was, if your CG is low enough so that you can balance your rig on it's side, you probably won't gain much stability by making the track wider.

Must be like trying to crawl on a bicycle

I know I felt that way going from a 16 1/2" track down to a 13 1/2" track. I'm now crawling a low rider I went to an all droop set up so side hilling is pretty dang good now. She fit's through the gates better and turns ALLOT sharper. I can now make a 180 degree U-turn in 3 feet, thats on a super with a 16 3/4" wheelbase.

Seems like a lot of people run wideners when there is no need, so far everyone is saying skinny though

I run M2k's on my TLT with no wideners, and it does great on most stuff, sidehilling gets hairy though. A couple guys we've met up with out here though ran wideners on their TLT's with the same chassis and Moab tires instead, and while the sidehilled great, they couldn't turn, and one guy broke an axle after a kinda uneventful tumble. I'd rather be able to squeeze through the gates easier and turn better than have that extra little bit of width, not worth it to me.

Is 11.5" width on a 2.2 too wide to be competitive in comps?

not necessarily. the gates are 16" apart, so with some good driving it shouldn't be a problem most of the time.

I think I am at 10.5 with Axials and Losi claws on RC4WD super narrows. Not too wide or skinny.

I run my 2.2 as narrow as possible. Anything that gets in the way of turning full lock gets moved. Shocks, links, all are located to keep my truck as narrow as I can get it. It is currently at 9.75" sidebiter-sidebiter w/ full width WK wheels. Once I get my custom wheels built, I should be around 9 3/8" to 9.5"

I try to keep my super as narrow as possible. My Maxx super is at around 15.5 inches wide and I am doing anything and everything to get it narrower. When I first put it together it was around 17 inches wide and I relized that it was just a little to wide and I would have tons of issues trying to get through the gates. So I took of the offset wheels and put on 2 inch wide Cheyenne Beadlocks and that increased my turning radious and brought my track width in to where it is now. So it was a two way deal.

Pretty good idea, Wide front for stability and narrow rear to get through those tricky gates
