Could do like some that build a crawler with Emaxx axles. Make the rear I.S. solid and keep the front IFS stock. Kinda like Toyotafourwheeln did with his axles on his maxx crawler but just do it to the rear axle. Then you could rest assure the gears would be the same. It would still have all Maxx parts so if/when something breaks might be a little simpler to figure what you need.

Sounds just like the one over on RCMT.... but he's got dual 4-stroke motors 8O It's a very nice project, been working on it for many months though. It can be done... only time, money and patients stands in your way. :P | |

yeah ive seen that also, and different ratios can be overcome with use of center diff i think

Ok.. so lets keep this going... solid rear axle with emaxx parts and IFS? would this make a good RCcrawler?

with the front still being emaxx and having the IFS, the rear will do all the work and not be that effective...if your gonna go through the trouble of making your rear a SA and 4 linking it, why not go ahead and do the front and be done with it and be happy?

since the thread had died down.. I was just asking for opinions if this set up would make a good RC crawler... I know in 1:1 crawling solid axles are better... but in 1:1 you don't have the freedom (well... unless ya have the money and skill) to customize as much as ya can on a RC. Jeremy... if the rear only is locked.. yes.. it would be doing all the work... is there not a way to lock the front also?? so the rear would be doing half the work.. or is there something I am missing with this theory?!?! oh ya.. | ||

I don't really see much advantage in doing this. Great way to be different and creative but all you will get is more clearance under the front end. You might as well do the maxx set up in the rear as well and gain the diff clearance there too. In 1:1, solid axles are sometimes used because they are stronger than IS but in this case, the rc solid axles and the maxx "axles" will be very close in strength and it's probably not something to worry about. But like I said, it is creative and you should have fun building it.

doug, did you get hit with a can of stupid ass today? WTF are you talking about you asked if that setup ( maxx IFS/IRS crap)would make a good crawler- NO, since the rear will only be doing the work and i said if your gonna go through the trouble of locking the rear, do the front too so it will work equally.. so why ask " is there no way to lock the front?" have you seen my widow noobies

hey old man.. shut up! I'm just asking.. yeah.. I got work on the brain today and trying to get away from it for a bit. the front and rear would both be locked jackass... rear solid axle... front independent... I still haven't heard a good reason why on a RC this wont work or at least isn't a good idea. is there no way to lock the front if its independent.... I have seen the widow.. but I don't pay attention to it.. plus you have it apart 99% of the time I see it

wait a minute. Are you guys talking about locking the diffs? I kept thinking you were talking about locking the suspension so the front IS would be a solid axle set up. Sorry. As for the set up you are actually talking about: Not sure too sure it would make a good crawler. In a sense, you have a toyota tacoma. coil over IS in the front and solid axle in the rear....minus the leaf springs. Well.....i haven't seen very many tacoma crawlers out there, without having had the front end swapped to a solid axle. Hence, the reason you probably should just use a solid axle up front as well. The question should really come back to you: For what reasons would you like to go to this set up?

The El CRAPitan affair had me ROTFLMAO!!! The Montrose boys were planning on coming, I will be finding out this weekend for sure hopefully. I got one other friend comin to watch also. I offered to get his Duke#2 rig done so he could drive but he wanted to see everyone else drive before making an attempt at hanging with the big dogs.
