Yeah, I seen remarks here about R2's breaking and not holding up, but I've been running mine for probably close to 2 years now with no problems at all. I've never personally known of any R2 gear failures. My rig is pretty heavy and is a shaft-twisting powerhouse, if it's held up to me and my driving, I feel safe calling it durable. |

I have several of the R2's with no issue! They are great. They could be improved, but they work great!

| Ball bearings and thicker gears? Oh, and let's not forget titanium everything with gold plating. I just hope they're the right shape and size so I fit two of them side-by-side onto a rig- a blocky compact shape, not a funny V-shape like their new V2 HD dual motor tranny. I know the R2 V1 will fit but I was told by RC4WD I might break the trannies if I was doing what I wanted to do...so I must wait. Last edited by DKNguyen; 11-10-2007 at 10:50 PM. |

| They could make the gears wider for a larger contact patch and use bearings instead of bushings for a start. I have a R2 in my TXT and the gears are all shark toothed and very close to failing. I greased it heavily with moly based grease before use. The truck has about 10 runs on it. However i think a R2 works just fine in a 2.2 rig. |

What makes it start to sharktooth? THe weight? wheel size? Motor? Can you say anything more specific than the size classification? PS. I just noticed their new dual-motor tranny has a ratio of 46:1! On some a Maxx diff that's 129:1! Wayyyy too much...or is it? It says you can use brushless motors on them...two brushless motors? lol. Last edited by DKNguyen; 11-10-2007 at 10:53 PM. |

The teeth are failing because there isnt enough tooth contact since the gears are so narrow. I was running maxx size mashers on my txt and a 60t handwound motor, nothing crazy. The gears are also 32 pitch which im not a huge fan of since they tend to be noisey. There is definitely room for improvement, but it sounds like rc4wd is on the right track. I personally would wait for the newer trans, why buy an outdated design? | |

Huh. Weird. "We hope to preview R2 II next year." 11/09/07 is what I got. THere was also a nibblet in this thread: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=88580 "R2 II is still a long way until it's out." 10-22-2007 Either way, I hope we're in the wrong and you're in the right. Yota, I think several people have said that there is no reason to wait. The R2 works good. Yes, it could have wider gears and bearings. However, it works good now! Go ahead and buy!!
