Default What radio systems is everyone using for independent 4ws??

What radio systems is everyone using for independent 4ws?? I was looking at the JR XS3 radio system, the main feature I like is NO crystals. But i'm not sure if it will work with independent 4ws.

There is two way to setup independent steering. One is with a thumb twiddler type radio (heli, or plane radio) with mixxing. The other is with the Futaba 3PJS or 3PK. These allow you to mix and program the misc. different buttons and knobs to perform the 4ws independently. Once there setup they work great!

If you want more details shoot me an email and I'll be glad to help.

I am using a Hitec Synthesized Lynx 3D and it works nice. I use it for all my rc's.

Traxxas TQ3 radio from a T/Emaxx. Removed rocker switch and replaced with a 3-way on/off/on switch for independent rear steer.

Converting Traxxas TQ3 - **THIS IS FROM RCMT.NET Not my Idea!!

Guys - here are some pictures of my converted TQ3
radio which is capable of 3 positions on the third channel. The first picture
below shows where I mounted the 3 way (center off) switch. Radio Shack
sells these. It must be a center-off switch.

Switch Up turns rear turns right
Switch Center rear wheels straight
Switch Down rear turns left

This next picture shows the wiring. Just transfer the three wires to
the three post on your new switch. Make sure the gray wire goes to the
middle of the switch, the other two don't matter, because servo reversing
will reverse the throw if needed. I had to extend all the wires because
of where I mounted my switch. I used similiar gauge wire and soldered the
extensions to the old wire and used clear heat shrink tubing insulation
over the connections. Your choice. On the black wire I simply soldered
on the extension to the bottom of the existing switch rather than disconnecting
it like the other two wires. This just made the job a little quicker. Also,
before splitting the case you will need to remove the crystal and the battery
cover. Hope this helps. Also, you might want to save the pictures, as I
cannot gaurentee the images will always be up.

I did it just like that, except I mounted the switch in a different location which did not requre extending the wires. I basically just de-soldered the old switch, and soldered the new one in and added the capacitors. The switch fits in the stock opening where the rocker switch used to be.

This is for AdamF- for us electronic challenged individuals, why do you need the capacitors and what size caps exactly? :?
Thank you

Honestly, I don't think you need them. The person I got the idea from told me you need them to "make the servo return to center" but that doesnt make sense. The only thing I can think they would do, would be to eliminate electrical glitches. But I re-did my radio with a different switch, and left off the capacitors and it's fine.

Iīll use a Sanwa VG400 4-channel stick transmitter and a Robbe RX600 6-channel receiver.

I also tested some time ago the third channel on the TQ3. Proportional movement is not able itīs only 3-point. I guess thatīs the "problem" of all 3-channel car transmitters...

On the contrary Uncle Manuel, I just got a JR XS3 which allows you to program the 3rd channel for linear movement. The switch is center off and momentary right and left. Steer either way and it will stay where you stop it. With the more exspensive radios and digital servos you can do just about anything you want.
