Default protecting paper plates from water?

I have a few license plates I saved to use on the rigs. I put one on the gwagon only to have it deteriorate from getting wet. I had only double stick taped it to the body.

Whats the best way, or a good way, to protect paper printout license plates from water? I read (searched) about covering it in packing tape but seems the edge would still get wet and ruin the whole thing.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

stuff I've had laminated before still leaves the edges exposed, unless you run the laminating 1/8" or so past the paper...or is there some special lamination?

Try rubbing super glue over it. It will soak in and seal it.

CA aka cyanoacrylate
The thin stuff works best for this btw.

You could also try clear-coating them with paint. just try a bunch of really, really light coats at first, then let that dry good, then hit it with a good semi-wet one. Do both sides. That's how I did mine and it's worked oK so far.

Another idea. They make a waterpoofing for paper maps that you could look into. I've used it and it seems to work pretty well, at least on maps. I believe Nikwax makes the one I've used.

So I mounted the plate with double sided tape to a peice of old credit card. Cut it out to size and did the CA trick. Worked well. We'll see how it holds up to water.
Thanks everyone.

Please note: Map SealŪ is not suitable for maps printed on ink jet printers. It will cause the ink to run just as water does.

I was going to suggest future floor coating... ppl use it to cover hard bodies anyway, Slot car guys use it to protect slide on decals.
