Default Removing Chrome....

Well I got a Tamiya Hilux kit a while back and I'm just getting around to building the body kit up. I decided that the black chrome that the new kit uses on the bumpers, rims, etc., just didn't fit my style or my build. So off it must go.

I bought a gallon of Purple Power (aka Castrol Super Clean) from my local Checker Auto Parts store. In go the parts and 2 days later.....BAM!!! I've seen a few guys remove the chrome with all sorts of different cleaners and some work and others....ahhh....but Castrol works great. Some chrome takes longer to remove than others though. For example the Tamiya F-350 Highlift chrome bumpers will clean-up in about 5 min. This Hilux kit however is much different.

Here are a few shots of the parts I cleaned up

These come out clean! No etching or discoloration at all. There shiny and look great (except the puke pea green parts )

Nope!

Just rinse and it's done. Soap and water will neutralize the cleaner, then rinse Those images are zero post prep.

Why did you go with pea green? Are you going to name it "Split Pea Soup"?

Thanks guys!

Griz...The split pea idea may just stick. Did Toyota make a puke green color back in the day?

I remember an orange with a stripe down the side...it was an interesting orange...

I tried simple green and it did nothing... I need to get some of that purple haze...

Basically you just submerge the item in Purple Power or Castrol Super Clean and wait. I left the Hilux parts in for 2 days and when I removed them they where squeeky clean. No brushing, no scrubing, nothing. Just a quick soap bath to clean off the degreaser and your good to go

Hey, and it works good for removing the green anodizing from Axial parts too.

I used to use this stuff on the Honda race car because it was pretty much the best stuff around. It actually makes Simple Green seem pretty weak.
