Default trailer hitches

hey guys i built a trailer to tow my rigs around and i was just looking for some ideas for the receiver part of the hitch, what did you use and how did you attach it to the truck? also what is everyone using for the tongue on the trailer, just a ball cup? any pics or info would be much appreciated! thanks

I used some 3/8" box tubing. I welded it into a bumper and bolted it to the frame. Then I used some 1/4" square aluminum stock for the drop hitch and bolted a large ball joint to it. The tongue of the trailer is some 3/8" U channel and bolted the same 1/4" stock into it drilled a hole into the end for the coupler.

If you look close you can see the hitch set up

Hi. I just used a 1/4" steel square tube & a 1/4" solid square bar from our local home depot. The drop was an aluminum angle stock which I cut and slightly bent out. I can't weld so I drilled and tapped a 6/32 screw to hold the angle to the steel bar. The whole thing was bolted to the bottom of the bumper. The ball is standard link ball from TLT.

when I don't use it, I use a 1/4" plug also found at home depot.

Hope it helps.
tks

I took the easy way out. receiver hitches are cool but I went with the home brew step and tow bumper route

Default trailer

so you say you are building a trailer. I am thinking of doing the same but so far all the aluminum channel is sitting in the corner of my shop doing nothing. if you have any hints on how to start building let me know would you please.

What kind of trailer do you want to build? Pure function? Scale? What design? Figure that out first. Then find pics of that type trailer so you can use them for reference when building your small version. Another thing is to use a material you feel you'll be comfortable working with. Sometimes it's hard enough during the build just figuring out how to fabricate certain ideas or details...and it makes it even tougher if you're getting frustrated with the material.

I used styrene to build mine rather than aluminum or steel, but it won't be carrying any real loads either and I just wanted it to look really scale. There's a link to my trailer build in my sig below...maybe it can give ya a kick in the pants and get you motivated to start on yours.

Made these from 3/16 and 1/4 inch brake line and 1/8 and 3/16 keystock from harbor freight. I use a vise to push the keystock into a section of tubing into the flared end. Then use a hammer to flatten out the flare on the 4 sides. A dremel, grinder, ect. to grind it flat on the end and presto! You have a hitch with the strengthening ring around the outside edge.

i used a tamiya ball stud and a rod end....i also just made a bracket that i attached to the back of my chassis that came over to the body and out right below the back fender....(no pics of it though, sorry)

u can kinda see the rod end here...also if you cant find a ball stud, a grease zert will work as well...
