| two questions for scalers
hello all, i have a project body that i have been keeping my eye on for some time now. then once i found this place i have been straring at it a bit more. forgive me for being a noob, but i have two questions for any takers. i have a nissan frontier body. its a cheapie from nowhere'sville. it has black molded windows and some ridiculous bumpers. i am nissan driver and have yet to find a decent Xterra body to run, so i am stuck looking at this frontier body. first question. the measurement from center of wheel well to center of wheel well is 10 inches. what scale would that be considered, and would it even be worth my efforts to make this truck a runner using my AX10 as a donor ? (i also have a line on another body if needed to be made into long bed) second question. seeing how the truck has black molded windows, are there any possible solutions to make clear ones ? i have searched forums and the web abroad, and have come up with empty pockets. thanks all for reading, and any feedback is welcome. -Shawn |

Your Nissan body should be about 1/10 scale with that wheelbase and it should work with an ax10. For the windows, you can pick up some lexan sheets online at sites like towerhobbies.com or at your local hobby store. Cut pieces out to fit your windows and either hot glue them in or use any number of other plastic adhesives. Hope this helps.

(WB of 1:1 truck) / (WB of model) = scale A quick search on the web shows the 4 door has a 125.9" wheelbase. If your body is a 4 door: 125.9 / 10 = 12.59. So it's pretty close to 1/12 scale. | |

What's the width on the body? That will also determin the axles you should use you don't want it to wide! Cause it will throw off the scale look! Axial axles are a bit wide but it will work, and there is no other way to make your windows clear, so like it was mention here on this tread your better of just getting some lexan sheets |

Remove your old windows. Warm up a sheet of Lexan where it is soft and pliable. Lay the sheet over the old window and let cool. They won't be exact but a little trimming here and there and you should be able to make it work.

thanks for all the quick replies. the width of the truck is 8" across the flares. the lexan idea is what i was thinking, i was wondering if any pros had any exp. with forming curved windshields. looks like its time to pull out the old toaster oven if the Xtrail frame min is 11 inches what other frame options do i have ? or is it off to the drawing board to make my own ? thanks again all. -crunks |

making your own windows isnt hard. I just did some for my brat. I tinted mine before installing them though. I cut cardboard templates of the windows, then hot glued them in. The curve of the windshield was easy as I held it down in place with one hand, holding the curve, then hot glued it with the other. I then held it till it was cooled off. if you build it up you're likely to have the wheels sticking way out like on the brat above. the axial axles are even wider than the tlt axles by about 1/2", the hilift axles are slightly wider than the tlt's by about 1/8". my range rover has a 10.5" wb and is about 7-1/4" wide. looks pretty scale with zero offset wheels and tlt axles. as far as chassis you will either need to make shock mount brackets so you can move them inward toward center (looking from side of chassis) or make your own rails... |

I would buy the new Losi crawler then mod it up seeing it would have everything you need. Your a Nissan guy to huh? Xterra? You on XOC? You could also go Nissan Titan for a larger size rig. |

are u a nissan guy ? the titan body just doesnt cut it for me.... the stock rtr AX10 is fun to cruise around, but it really needs to go to the wife. i'm tempted to ship off the bronco to fund a new project. i know it might sound crazy cause everyone wants to go SAS... but i wouldnt mind looking into a pajero body for this nissan body. its already got the IFS. hahahaa. thanks again for the replies. |

I just got the Losi mini crawler and i think the axles would work perfect for a scale build the wheel base is 9.5'' and the axles are 7.5'' with the the tires, and 5'' wide from wms to wms, (wheel mounting surface). The shocks would need stiffer springs. I want to use a Hilux body and make a scaler.
