Default 1.9 scale build options - Hilux kit, RC4WD kit, or piece together my own?

I want to build a 1.9 scale hard body. I would prefer a Hilux Toyota but would also do a Clod bodied Chevy. I want it to be leaf spring front and rear. I would prefer to build it myself and piece together a build from scratch, but I am concerned the overall cost for such a build would be too much. I am willing to spend up to $750 not including electronics, but I am not sure that would have everything covered. I would rather not spend that much, but for something extremely nice I would.

I researched my options and this is what I have found:

Stock Tamiya Hilux kit:
http://www.rcpcrawlers.com/product.php?productid=928&cat=35&page=1

Or RC4WD kit:
http://rc4wdstore.com/product_info.p...roducts_id=817

I like the RC4WD kit and think that would be great, but the release date keeps getting pushed back and I would still be looking for a complete body. It comes with your choice of bead locks, nice axles, your choice of a good transmission, your choice of tires, and looks pretty capable out of the box.

The Hilux kit would have everything I need body wise, but the rest of the kit is somewhat in question as to how capable it is and if it's worth buying.

It would be nice to find a decent 1.9 scaler done, but they don't last too long in the for sale section and you don't get the fun of building it. Is there another kit or vendor I have over looked?

Thank you for any input and suggestions.

piece it/ or hilux. the problem with piecing it is the body.
if you hold your breath for an RC4wd release date, youll die in no time ;) plus it would be quite costly

I would price out piecing it together yourself. I think you can do it for under $750 even if you bought all the parts new, My gwagon was about that, plus what I paid stang to put it together (its his chassis design).
I've done another rig for well under that including everything (but 4 linked).

this man speaks the truth.
by the pieces you WANT, and do it yourself.
you get exactly what your after and cheaper. less throw away too.

Buy a used one and go from there...

I have built so many rigs and paid top dollar for all the components. I just bought someone elses rig and going to add my flair to it. I am into it for a third of what it would have been if I bought all the parts separately.

Thank you everyone for your input and suggestions.

I ended up buying a used F350 Hilift roller for a fair price. It kinda sucks having another Ford scaler when I am a Chevy guy. I now have a 2.2 Ford scaler and a 1.9 Ford scaler.

I had been looking all over the net, forums, ebay, etc looking for something. It was either too nice to bash, too expensive to bash, or just not worth it. A new Hilux kit wasn't worth the cost to me and I really wanted the RC4WD kit. But so often RC4WD gets it wrong before they make it right, so I figured I would wait. I also looked into piecing it together, but the chassis I really wanted from MSD still isn't available and I kinda wanted something more complete to start with. So I will play with it as is for a while and go from there. Thanks guys

My thoughts exactly and for the price I got it for, I couldn't go wrong. I will post some pics when it arrives.
