Default Dad's old iron

I've been toying with making these old trucks into semi scalers for a few years now. I have 4 of them, and they were about the only toys my dad had as a child. Sadly they were part of a fire 15 years ago, and I manged to fish them out of the burn pit. This truck had a motor, head light buckets, and a winch on the bed.

These are just mock up pics. I'm still messing around with how I want everything laid out.

I'm keeping this one rusty and banged up. Right now I have the orginal frame just inside of the cab so I can keep the cab and bed a unibody. Kinda felt bad to take a hacksaw to a 60+ year old toy.

Just the cab and bed with that little bit of frame is 2.40 pounds! This thing will end up being a beast.

No, since they belonged to my dad. But, here is one on ebay more intact for under 20 bucks.

This one is what the truck would have looked like before the fire. http://cgi.ebay.com/Old-STRUCTO-FLAT...item35a581fe45

That's killer, and I see you picked up the weathered MFM scale chassis that was for sale a few weeks ago too...perfect!

I'm watching this one.

When I saw it in the for sale section I knew I had to have it for this truck.

I was thinking about the old weathered logos like the cherry bomb truck on Gearz. I'll have to look into that a bit more.

Thanks guys!

Well, I've got everything hammered together. I'll update the pics when my camera battery charges. I put the motor and tranny as far forward as I can get them, but the cab hits them. So my front fenders are not lining up with my axles. I might have to order some goodies from rc4wd to fix that.

Still having issues with the shock mounts as well. I'll have to order a crawler king axle kit just for the shock mounts.

Progress! After the first few pictures, I moved my motor link back one hole on the chassis and down one hole on the tranny. That tipped it forward enough to clear the cab.

Now I need to fab a little angle bracket to support the cab to the bed. As much as I don't want to do it, I really have no other option. I also found some 1/4" bar stock in my garage, so I'm gonna try to mod the link mounts to something usable.

Other than that, she's a runner now. You can see the factor quality control was a bit off. The cab is about 1/8" off from the bed, but I'm not gonna hack it up to fix that. It's rusty, crusty, bent, and beat. I gotta keep with the theme.
