| Dual output Creeper axle possible?
Interesed in building an 8x8 with these axles as they have great steering throw. Thinking the "locked" and "unlocked" feature will be lost because the "input" side of the axle half will be used on both ends, thus losing the sliding device to lock or unlock. I can live with locked axles on the inner two and unlocked on the outer, but not the other way around. Just wondering if it would work. If not, AX10's it will be.

Got the parts so I can answer my own question : it works! parts needed: Just like an ax10 axle: another pinion shaft/gear and 2 bearings to support it + another output-side axle housing. The axle c's fit right on. Pro's: 1. No need to flip the axle behind the dual output axle to correct for proper rotation - just flip the dual output axle around 180 2. Axle can be locked or unlocked. To lock, you'll need a spacer to hold the red locking ring up against the diff housing. For unlocked, leave the locking ring off, slide on the brass colored-spacer and then the bearing as usual. i'm building an 8x8 (or 6x6 tri-axle- not sure yet) plow truck so I dont need locked diffs all around. Should help with the turning radius. 3. If you mount a servo on the chassis, can also be a steering axle with a bent cross link to hump over the output shell (where the pinion gear gear goes into) 4. The axle behind (or in front of) the dually remains unchanged and will have the locking feature and servo mount, as stock Con's: 1. The outside locking/unlocking switch is lost 2. No place to mount a servo on the axle 3. ? Pics if you want |
