Default Servo Orientation - Face front or face down?

I'm doing some work to my K2-4 Scaler and originally had the servo face front.

I notice now that the trend is to face them down...like the Hand Bros. mount.

Is this just for fitment or does it have some type of advantage?

I do get a little bit of suspension "pull" when steering in one direction versus the other, but thought possibly a panhard would take care of it. Also have dropped the suspension a little so I'm thinking it may have helped...electronics not in it to test right now.

It would be easy enough to change the mounting, but if it's not any better, then I would prefer to leave it alone. With it laying flat, there is tons of room under the hood for my batts and electronics.

You can see that it's relatively low...suspension only compresses about an inch.

Thanks!

I run mine all face down on my scalers because it looks more scale to do so. This way it the servo horn is seen it looks like a pitman arm. I run them all on the drivers side facing long ways. Just my $0.02.

So, it's just for looks then?
On my truck, you can barely see the arm so not real worried about hiding. With the low height of the truck and placement of the servo, it's hard to see.

There are a few different reasons for choosing which orientation. Personally I have both and like them both equally well in their respective rigs.

1: Fitment - some builds wont allow for one mounting position versus another

2: aesthetics, already been mentioned why

3: weight position - mounting a servo face forward allows you to mount it lower, thereby keeping your cg a tad lower.

Mostly though it comes down to a matter of preference and how the build goes together.

With mine mounted down, it gives me all kinds of room so I think I'll leave it that way. Since my truck is built and not a kit, why mess with the mounting again?

Thanks everyone.

A servo mounted facing down has less chance of getting water on the board and keeping it there.
