0lllllll0 Jeep JK 0lllllll0

So this is my first scale rig, so please bear with me as I am still trying to learn everything.

I was into RC cars more than 20 years ago, and wow have things changed.

I wanted to build a scale Jeep JK to try and match my 1:1. I started out with a stock Axial SCX10 RTR TR Honcho. Nice rig to start with, so I figured it would be a great starting point.

Some of the things I have done so far

Matched Tekin FXR ESC and 35T motor
Custom made aluminum 4 link
CC BEC
3Racing winch, with one of heyok's winch controllers
FlySky FS-GT3B Digital 3ch 2.4ghz TX & RX
Bad ass custom hand made front bumper from Dave-@tw!ll at DHFab, Dave does killer work
Bad ass custom hand made rear basket made by Shon-R2j at R2j Custom Crawlers coupled with a RC4WD swing out rear tire carrier.
Misc. scale accessories, some purchased, some hand made.
New Bright Swamp Dawg body

Well, onto some pics of the progress.

So I started to remove the mud on the lenses, I sanded them with 320, 500, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500 and finished with 3000 grit sand paper. Then I used a white wool pad and 3M rubbing compound and a 3" mini buffer to polish them, and finished with a black foam pad and 3M foam pad finishing glaze.

They look cloudy in the pic, but thats the flash, they are perfectly clear.

Used the same process on the windshield

To remove the "mud" I sanded the whole thing with 320 then 500 grit sand paper and then cut all the fenders and cut the bumpers off. I filled the "fender attachment points" with a good quality automotive 2 part glaze(like bondo, but easier to sand)

That is some shiny paint you got there. I also see you have the real deal in your driveway.

zumzum5150 02-11-2011 01:12 PM

Nicely done.."thumbsup"

Lobonyc 02-11-2011 01:51 PM

Nice work so far on the jeep.

Now i know what to do when removing the mud off the headlight lenses.

By the way your work on cutting the fenders was super clean. no rough edges and everything seems symmetrical. "thumbsup"

Damn, Nearly forgot, sweet color combination!

Awesome job on the bodywork and paint. Love the look of the chopped and filler flares . You just can't go wrong with a silver JK..! Heres one I built a while back.. "thumbsup"

This is a great shot. I took a doubletake to make sure it wasn't the real thing. The "open" driver side window, black door handles and hood snaps, winch, headlight, and d-rings really add to the realism.

The biggest giveaway to me is the steering/draglink, and lower links, then I realized the pine needles were really big! Great job.
