Exclamation What would i use to start building one?

Im a noob to rock crawling but i wanna get into it in the scale class. I posted the same thread on rcu, and a guy said use clod axles. Im 13, so that would be at least 2 times more expensive then a pede tranny. But what axles would i use with a pede tranny? And also, i wanna build a chassis. I have acsess (spelling) to a welder, but are there any specs for how long it should be or anything?

Thanks for putting up with my noob Q's.

oh 1 more thing. i wanna use the jeep cj8 body from HPI for the savage. will this work? :-D

most people use TLT axles. read and look the picks on the sticky Scale Crawler Picture Archive (PICTURES ONLY!)
You would be better using break tube and a brazing torch for the tuber. There is a tech artical on building a tuber on the home page.

A scale rig size is determind buy how it looks like a 1/1 rig. I think it is 12" or so but it depends on where the wheel wells are.

Just look around and do some searches. Lot of info in here

Do you have the body yet? Make the frame rails around the lenght of the body. Most wheelbase's are 11.5"-12.5 " some are 13".

The TLT axles are best. You can get them here www.ultimaterc.com

Also get some 2.2 rims like the pede fronts (Dont get the rears, the fronts are more offset). Some of the best 2.2 tires are moabs (Probably the best), masher 2000, swampers, geolanders, and i might be forgetting some. To get these go to towerhobbies.com, and do a search for 2.2

You need the body first to build the frame. you make the frame and the wheel base to fit the body. you should have the body, motor, tranny, shocks, axles, and rims and tires before you try to make the frame. Keep searching this web sight for more info. use the search button at the top of the page, and keep up on your thread.

Another thing to if you dont have acsess to a torch would be using solid rod like 1/4 or something smaller, and welding it thats how i made my tuber, if you go that route make sure you have a grinder, although if you have acsess to a torch for brazing, i would get brake line for the fact its WAY LIGHTER, i wish i would have used brake, next time. And along the lines of a savage body i dont see why not. I made my first tuber with a little help last year when i was 13.
