I have something new: ![]() Yes, these are Portal Axles for the Losi Mini Rock Crawler. I started with this: ![]() I use metric Modul 0.5 gears with 20T and 30T. ![]() ![]() ![]() The CVD driveshafts have been shortened: ![]() The holes for the ball bearings need some rework: ![]() I also removed some plastic around the CVDs: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I use 0.2mm shim on both sides of the gears: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Stock MRC on the left compared to a portaled MRC: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I designed the portal axle to fit standard metric gears. (available at www.conrad.at - NR:231843 und 231835 about 29€) The Plastic Parts are so called Rapide Prototyping Parts. (Laser sintered) It is not cheap, but cheaper than CNC milled parts. I am not going to mass production, so it is OK. http://www.shapeways.com/model/29812...rc.html?gid=mg The minimum wall thickness is 4mm and the plastic is really strong. After some test drives, there are no problems yet. I am not sure which body I will mount on this axle? maybe the Tamiya Unimog is perfect... Sorry for my bad english ![]() nice greeetings from Austria! |

If everyone would read in the first post, there are two links the OP provided. Ones is for the gears and the other is for the portal parts with buying info at the site. Ill be trying these out in a few weeks if i dont get sidetracked with other project. |

Hey, dude, if you aren't going to mass produce these things, would you mind posting the digital files you sent to Shapeways? ![]() |

Very cool! Have you had a chance to run them yet? How well do they hold up? These things are just begging to be CNC'd ![]() |

Anybody know about comp legality? I think these would be sick on a droop setup with the skid dropped level with the bottoms of the diffs! Same ride height I have now but more axle clearance! Anywho, sign up as a vendor, make a finallized aluminum version, and I'll give you my card number right now! Comp legal or not, these would kill at my local spots. |

So they main purpose of the Portal Axles is to raise the hubs and create more ground clearance on the axles Correct ????, does the gear on gear in each hub, does that gear it down and create more torque and slower crawler speeds ?????
