| Motor and SC for a 11 pound TTC rig...
I am sure many of you remember Big Oly that was built as a TTC truck by Tommy R, and later ran by neillarson. In case you don't, you can go here to check it out. Big Oly's Rebuild - Phase 1, some new axles.. or here Big Oly is coming back or here 2.2 Bronco Testing I finally finished up the suspension and axle changes and it is time for drive train and motor to move this beast. The trans is going to be an axial with all the goodies to make it bulletproof, and it will have wraith axles under it. My question and the poll, what to use for power. I am planning on 2-3s packs in parallel, so I can get a decent run time out of smaller packs. I was thinking about a Holmes BRXL, waterproof, and a brushed motor in the 16t range. It then occurred to me that lots of guys are running the Tekin pro4 brushless motors in their Wraiths with good results, so.... Brushed, brushless, 3s, 4s??? What is your two cents worth. Remember this rig will have steel drive shafts when I am done, and it will weigh 11 pounds, or more possibly.. Thanks guys... Last edited by bigstu; 01-03-2012 at 11:37 AM. |

Wih the 3800kv 4pole castle setup the low end to get th motor to start turning is terrible.. lots of cogging. Even with an 11t 48p pinion.. I couldt get this setup to run smooth no matter what I tried. I was using mmp and I tried tuning it for hours with no results. I currently run a 16t crawlmastr with brxl on 4s in a 9.5lb rig you should be fine on 3s... granted I'm using 32p gears my setup is 9/56 As for the pro4 motors I have no personal experience with them. |

I'm planning on running 32p so I can make the gears live in mud and water.. Accually am thinking about the 32p steel one that Robinson makes for the slash. I have a trans spur gear cover and may try to make that work with the body.. The cover may accually make it look like more of a firewall than having the open gear down there. Was thinking 9/56 to 12/56 depending on the motor, etc.... Keep the votes and info coming guys.. |

I like the BRXL and run a 35t motor with 18t pinion and on 3S it's wicked fast, just needs more low end grunt for crawling.
